Tesoro's Lifetime Warranty And Not The Original Owner

MarkCZ

Well-known member
Seems this just keeps coming up, many folks say that Tesoro's Lifetime Warranty doesn't have anything to do with first owner or the tenth owner, its warrantied for "Life" (short of abuse)

Well, I know my brother contacted Tesoro and ask about their warranty and not being an original owner. The reply back was pretty straight forward "Lifetime Warranty To The Original Owner"

Well, this came up again in a topic in another area of this forum. A person was looking for a second detector and it was suggested to get another used Tesoro's and the pitch went on with the lifetime warranty to any owner original owner, or not.

Now it seems that Tesoro must be bending over backwards in the area of repairs that isn't actually warranty work if they wanted to declare a second hand unit "Not Warrantied".
When I came in with a post about the warranty being only to the original owner, another came back and stated that I was incorrect!

I am interested in owning a Tesoro someday in the future but don't own one at this time, so I did a search and found a Tejon pdf manual and got a screen shot of the warranty information stated in it.
Looking at it and reading it, its straight forward as it can be, they are only lifetime warrantied to the original owner (at lest the Tejon is).

My question is how did it come about that Tesoro's are lifetime warrantied to any down line owner?
Isn't the warranty information in every Tesoro manual?
How does so many people over look that?

Now, if there isn't anything different about the warranty on the Tejon then it would seem to me that when passing along the warranty information to a potential buyer that would be better to reference the warranty something like this,

Tesoro has a lifetime warranty with their detectors to the original owner, but a good number of down line owners have sent their second hand Tesoro's in for repair for no charge to the customer other than one way shipping to Tesoro.

Its seems really misleading to me to tell someone that an item has a lifetime warranty to any down line owner.
Now to state that Tesoro really goes out of their way by repairing units many times outside of the warranty would be good.

Bottom line the way I read it,
Lifetime warranty to the original owner.

See screen shot below!

Doesn't matter what this thing says.
You have to state things in a certain way for legal reasons and to keep from being taken advantaged...some people being as they are in this world.

I have read dozens of posts on several different forums of non original owners sending in their units and they WERE serviced for no charge.
I have also read at least 2, if not 3 replies from representatives of Tesoro that work at the factory that said they will service any product they have ever made if possible and within reason, no matter who owns them.
They are careful never to say the words,"for no charge"...but it is always extremely implied.

You seem to be a very literal kind of guy, which is ok, or an engineer.

Well, "literal" will have to do LOL!

But, really there is a big difference to me as a buyer in a company going out of their way to not charge customers for repairs outside of the warranty.
Or, them being liable to HAVE to repair a unit under warranty to ANY owner!

Me the buyer, then looks at the purchase with a clearer idea of, its a second hand unit, if something happens to it Tesoro will most likely take care of the problem at no cost, but! they are not liable to do so, if the problem is pretty involved or really costly to the company then I could very well get a repair charge!
Then for me I would consider the price savings of new verses used, in that it may take a bit better of a price deal used to sway me to not buy a new unit.

Now, I've never heard any claims of a lifetime warranty to down line owners from a Tesoro personal, just Tesoro's owners (or other hearsay)

Maybe I'm to picky for my own good, but I see it as big difference,
I bought it with a warranty and not just under grace

Or I bought it and the manufacture is just known to take care of owners by doing most repairs at no charge! great company if true but, its still "Grace" A companies policy could change at any point as well. I could see a company being able to this for a period of time, but then as MILLIONS of older detector age and start to be a major financial strain on the company then things may be different! grace, then could fall to the fine print of Liable or not!

It seems simple enough. Tesoro warrants their detectors for life to the original owner. That's way beyond what any of the other metal detector companies offer. People should be grateful that there's a company that sells high quality detectors at reasonable prices and is so willing to stand behind their product like Tesoro does. If Tesoro decides not to charge for repairs to subsequent owners, that's their choice to do so. It's that simple. You can't please everyone, no matter what you do.

I'm so happy that I don't have to deal with the public anymore.:)

Either way, what ever you buy even a used one from Tesoro sounds like they will fix it, unless its hacked up. If not for free for a fee. Most likely more than any other metal detector company would. This is all I need to hear. Best Warranty in the World on a product LIFETIME.

Its not even worth talking about just buy one.

tesoro has fixed detectors out of warranty to the "second" or more owners
however,be prepared to pay if you are NOT the original owner!..just sayin'

(h.h.!)

About 3 1/2 weeks ago I sent an Eldorado back that was sick, I told Tesoro that I was not the original owner. Turns out it had a bad coil (cracked by the ear, water had gotten in), they did not give me a free replacement coil, but, they did sell me a new coil at a reduced price. They also checked it out and made sure the electronics were to spec. I also bought some side decals for it, they charged me a decent price and installed them on the machine. Rusty called me and let me know what was going on and gave me some options. Plus it had a less than 2 week turn around from the day I shipped until the day I got it back. Oh, they paid for return shipping also.

So, yes, I had to pay to get the detector fixed, but, it was top notch customer service all the way. The end result? I am a happy customer.

They are very well built so not many go back for repairs due to malfunction from what I understand.
Usually it's because the unit suffered damage from a fall, dog chewing, or when used as a weapon by the wife........ or someone wants a unit
looked at to see if it's at peak performance when buying used.

Go out and buy a Tesoro new or used, you won't be sorry. Don't worry about a warranty, more than likely the unit will outlast you...LOL

Tesoro is very good about standing behind their products regardless of who sent it in. I have had other manufactorers fix machines and not charge. It is their choice so be nice when you call. HH :minelab:

MarkCZ,

I hand carried a Tesoro in for repair because of a erratic detector.

I was up front with them & stated I was not the original owner.

They took it back to the repair section and gave me a tracking ticket & took my phone #. I went shopping down the street in town at J&G gun shop & was there less than an hour before I received a phone call from them with the cause of the problem.

My coil cord had become damaged (nick through the outer coil cord) & water had penatrated the coil, making it fail. Because it was'nt a warrenty issue but wear & tear, the cost of replacement was mine & rightly so.

They still checked the rest of the machine out & gave it a clean bill of health for no charge + adjusted the new coil to the machine,

TESORO ROCKS !!! The money spent in the repair department is the best advertisement they could have.

Many MDer companies charge exorbinate fees for repair & many are'nt worth the cost for repair or cost more than the unit is worth.

I've owned White's, Minelab & Tesoro. All I own now is Tesoro !

HaRM

Not that I have had too many problems with either brand, as far as Minelab, I have only had one....... the Explorer ll, and it did'nt clic with me.

Now, Tesoro really excells with the older models, I have an old metal boxed INCA that was having troubles with an IC that was bad and they fixed it for free and shipped it back.....impressive:tesoro:

White's did the same with an old 5900 Di Pro SL, only cost was my shipping:whites:

This is real life experiences, but mine only. Your mileage may vary.

The folks @ Tesoro and their equipment & support is top shelf.

I never did send my warranty card in and it's been a couple of years now, or close to it. I didn't see the card in the box until later and the card stated to send it in within a couple of weeks of purchase. I suppose that I should send it in with an explanation. Machine is fine.

Hi stinkfoot, Go ahead and send it in, so you will not be concerned about it, and as the saying goes,"'don't worry. be Happy ! " This thread is all about those of us who do know letting those who don't know , or have heard contrary, or are hung up on the Tesoro's Warranty statement to know the real story of how Great Tesoro"s Lifetime Warranty and Service really is, You can read about these folks experiences and be assured you will always be glad you bought Tesoro. Many of us have bought (used)Tesoros over the years that came to us with no Warranty Card to sign and have learned to not give it a second thought, because most of us at some time have needed a repair or some type maint/check up for that machine and shipped it in and Tesoro "gotter done",most times at no charge.. Tesoro has been doing that for a bunch of us forever, and no other Mfg. can make that statement. It took the others forever to understand that good customer relations was simply good for business. Well Duh, and that goes even now out to some folks that for some reason are all hung up and can't quite trust that to be in the realm of possibility that Tesoro could be so good to their folks. So keep putting that Tesoro to the dirt and have some HH, Charlie
