Tesoro's ED 180 disc vs Minelabs X Terra Range

How does the discrimination ability of the x terra 70 fair up against tesoro's ED 180 discrimation circuitry ?

I've read alot about tesoro's ED 180 disc , mainly that written by Monte and belive I have a good understanding of it . The question thats always on my mind is how does it stack up to the Minelab X Terra 70's discrimination circuitry ?
Does the xterra 70 accept the full 180 spectrum much the same as Tesoro models that have true ED180 ?
My understanding is that In prospecting mode on the xterra 70 it allows for a threshold based AM search mode with iron mask applied , the iron mask cause's the threshold to null in the presence of iron .
Now does this mean that the xterra 70 has the ability to truely accept all metals while at the same time be able to discriminate iron out with the iron mask ?

Well I also run a X-Terra 70. I have not used the prospect mode at all. I do know people who use it though. I will say that it is a very nice detector, Beale.

The iron mask feature you are referring to on the 70 is only on the prospecting mode which as the name implies mainly useful while prospecting. Now that doesn't mean that you can't use that mode for other purposes but it is a minimum disc control for that mode.
Of course you can run the 70 so that you have an all metal accept in disc mode, most tone detectors work better when little or no disc is used.
I think you need to decide first whether you want a ID detector or not, that would help with your decision on picking a detector, otherwise this is really an apples and oranges comparison.
What I would do is group detectors by features and then narrow down your choices to a few, if price is a concern, then that can be used as part of the determination.
You could buy both and see which you like best, that's what I generally do.
Hope this helps.
