Tesoro Vaquero

rodbuster

When I first used my Vaquero I was hopeful it would be as good as my blue box unit , as it turned out I haven't been disappointed. This detector is just fun to use and has all the performence I wanted.

I just bought a Vaquero today, I wanted a detector that used the same coils as the Tejon but with the 9v battery so I could mount it on a straight rod. They haven't come out with a straight rod for the Tejon yet and don't think they will because of the battery box location. The Vaquero will be a little lighter than the Tejon and more so on the straight rod. Can't wait to get it here and see what it's gonna do for me.
I've heard alot of good comments on them.

My ground modded Cibola is on the way. Apparently it runs smoother than the Vaquero and you can sweep the coil a little faster without losing depth. Not sure about that though. The only downside is that Tesoro probably won't touch it if I need it serviced :(

I have a Modded Silver Sabre that I reluctantly bought a few years back , I've had it ever since and kept it when I let others go. it's a stable unit and detects deep enough for me. I may put it out there for someone else to enjoy soon though if this Vaquero works out.

what does the "modded" detector do and where do you send your detector to have it done? or do you do it yourself?

It's one of the older Silver Sabres that had the pinpoint and adjustable threshold, that's had the Manual Ground balance added to it . Joe Bren ( Developer of the Killer B's headphones) did the work a few years back. The guy he did it for offered it up for sale because he was trying to get money up for a new x5. I've never had an issue with it whatsoever. Joe did a top notch job on it.
