Tesoro Vaquero :tesoro: :usaflag: The Last Dig Of The Day

After talking a beating with the high temperature and steam room like humidly Saturday, I swore that wasn't going to detect for a couple of days, until another weather front comes through on Tuesday to cool things down some. I stayed home Sunday, but when I woke this morning I had a hankering to go and do some detecting. I got to the site early this morning and met up with my cat helper. I couldn't get anything going and wasn't finding nothing but some old clad coins and trash. I finally messed around and found a single wheat penny. I felt beat! I was thinking about calling it a day after only a couple of hours of detecting, but I thought I'd try one more spot. I swung my 5.75 concentric coil around a stone column and got sweet sounding audio tone. I dug down and popped a 1925 Standing Liberty Quarter laying right on the concrete footing next to the column. I guess that's way it's so stained and tarnished. It's in really good condition, it just needs a long soaking and some cleaning.

I was using my normal set up. The discrimination was set just where a Gatorade Sports Drink Foil Cap just discriminates out, full sensitivity, a slight threshold hum, and just a little negative on the ground balance. Everyone should have a 5.75 concentric coil in their coil arsenal.

Such a beautiful coin! Congratulations Tabman. I found one once, long ago with my Bounty Hunter, but the date was worn off. Yours has a nice clear date and the beaded rim is still nice and visible. I am hoping to find one at the 1917 house site I have permission to hunt, we shall see.

Yeah, it was so dirty and tarnished I wasn't sure what I had when I first popped it out the ground. I forgot and left my coin bottle in the car. I keep it full of water and add a few drops of dish soap to help start the cleaning process before I get home.

Way to go Tabman. It's hard to find a standing liberty quarter in that good of condition.

Thanks. It's not so hard if you have a Genie.:)

Thanks. I went for awhile digging slick silver coins and here lately they've been in great condition.

I believe that's the 70th silver coin so far this year. I might make a 100+ silver coins for the year if I stay lucky.

Thanks. I hope you do well at your new site. I've been doing a lot better since I started going really slow and grid off small areas to detect.

Thanks. Gunnar 1925 was the first year they starting making them so the date would be harder to wear off.

I was really lucky to find it, because I was about give up and head home. I was thinking someone could have dropped something next to that old column. Yep they sure did!

1916 was the first year of mintage for the standing liberty quarter

Super nice quarter Tabman! I like the 5.75 coil too. Just out of curiosity, do you think you would have found it if you had been using the sharpshooter instead of the 5.75 concentric?
