Tesoro Vaquero :tesoro::usaflag: Raining Silver :detecting:

I got off to a slow start this morning and didn't get to the site until around 9:00 o'clock. Yesterday I found 22 wheat pennies and two big handfuls of clad coins, but not a single silver coin. A change of site was in order. At the new site my very first target turned out to be a 1945 Washington Quarter. Oh, it sounded so sweet. The next silver coin that I unearthed was a 1964 Rosie Dime. It must of been on edge because its audio response was a little choppy. The next silver coin that I found, a 1944 Mercury Dime, gave the soft sweet audio response that will put a smile on your face. Oh boy, I got 3 silver coins and I just got started. Oh no, I felt a sprinkle, so I started hurrying along searching for another silver coin. It didn't take long before I got my coil over a 1944 Washington Quarter. I'm on a roll, but here comes the rain. I only got to detect for around about hour or so. I'm definitely going back to that site tomorrow. I also found a Junior Police Badge, a few Wheat Pennies ( 1925, 1955, 1929, 1955, 1914 ), a 1906 Indian Head Penny, a Memphis Rail Token, a few clad coins, 2 Mardigras Tokens and couple of 925 Silver Earrings. I figured since I couldn't detect in the rain I could a least ride around looking some other good places to detect.

It's really hard to beat a Tesoro when it comes to finding the good stuff. If my coil would have gone over a gold ring today, it would have been mine, because I keep the discrimination set low.:)

Nice score tab ! How do you like that coil, is it a nel tornado ? How do you think it compares to the Tesoro 5 x 10. I'm looking for an elliptical coil to try out at old trashy cellar hole old home sites in the woods here in new Hampshire. Having owned many Tesoro in the past. And as of right now I have none. I'm trying to figure out if i want the 5 x 10 on a vaquero or tejon. I really liked the vaquero, I liked the tejon also but the one I had felt weak, seemed like the vaquero was deeper. Any thoughts. Thanks

Thanks. I really like the Sharpshooter coil. It gets really good depth, it's light and covers ground fast. There's not much difference between it and a the Tesoro 5 x 10. It may be a half inch deeper or so, but that could be because the 5 x 10 could be out of tune. I don't know. I prefer the Vaquero over the Tejon for coin hunting. It just runs smoother and gives a better audio signal on deeper coin targets. If I'm not in a hurry I prefer using concentric coils over DD coils. They just discriminate better and do a better job finding good targets in trashy areas. When I'm on a good site that has the potential of giving up some old coins and relics, I'm swinging a Tesoro. It's just so relaxing listening to a single audio tone and being surprised at what pops out of the ground. Those detectors that have several tones and flashing numbers work great at cherry picking, but they drive my crazy sometimes.

The Vaquero is a silver vacuum, nice coins:thumbup:

Nice going Tabman. When i lived in Pa and NJ there was all kinds of places to detect for silver....Not so much here in Arizona as most parks are newer with underground sprinkler systems so i do a lot of tot lots and volleyball courts.
My other two detectors are for nugget hunting which is a whole nother ball game.
If anybody on here lives in Arizona give me some hints where to go in north of Phoenix so i can find stuff like Tabman???
Again..... Nice finds

:surprised: You are going into what, your 5th year of this sport right?

I'm thinking, at this blistering pace, already over 100 silvers and some gold, THIS is the year of the Tabman!

I'm thinking an easy 500 silvers if not 1000...that is if the weather cooperates for some great Springtime hunts, and so does the Fall for a strong finish...If you can keep getting into some productive dirt that is...

I'm also thinking you have to figure out a way to punch through the Summer months producing high numbers when you typically get shut down from the heat and dry conditions...so that may involve finding some old muddy water swimming holes or something downstream from some old RR trestles near a school, wading creeks etc?...

You have all the right gear, you certainly have figured this sport out...you should GO FOR IT!:beers:

Very nice finds! That gets me motivated to get out - have been busy lately but am planning on an all day hunt next Sunday! Will try to get some silver tonight at a new-to-me rental...good luck on the second hunt! See if you can find where Ben's been hiding...:clapping:

My Vaq is getting returned this week. Hopefully Ill have some decent weather and soft ground shortly.

You're killing me Tabs. Im getting cabin fever, and the only cure.s are fishing or detecting .

What! I only have 23 silver coins for the year and that's counting the 3 that I found today. When the heat gets here, I'll be dragging butt. I'd be happy finding a 150 silver coins for the year with my digging style. If I was cherry picker, finding a 150 silver coins would be a lot easier.
