Tesoro Vaquero Strikes Silver Again With New 8 Inch Super Coil :tesoro::usaflag:

I got a early start this morning to see if I could find a war nickel. I thought the Vaquero would be best suited for the task at hand. I have found lots of silver coins dated during the war at this location, but not a single nickel of any kind. Everything started out right. I had the discrimination set at 'foil' and was able to run the sensitivity a little past '10' with threshold at the 3 o'clock position. Right off the bat I got a good signal at the back of a curb. I dug down around 6 inches and popped out a 1944 wheat penny. That's always a good sign. About 15 minutes later I got another good signal and dug a Memphis Street Railway Token at a good 7 inches deep. This is the second one that I have found. They're a little smaller than a dime and were used somewhere between 1895 - 1945. All is good so far, but then things started going down hill. This damn biting fly started gnawing on my ankles and a annoying gnat got after my ears and around my eyes. I about slapped myself silly trying to kill them. The next thing you know I messed around and got sun screen in my eye from all the wiping and slapping trying to kill the little pests. I couldn't concentrate and all I was digging was trash. I wasn't having any fun at all, so I decided to have lunch at 9:30. After lunch, I decided to call it a day, but then decide to try one more time to find some silver. I set the discrimination high enough to knock out screw caps and zinc pennies, because I was fed up with digging trash by this time. I was working the back of some more curbs and got a great signal. I dug down around 5 inches found a piece of brass or copper at the bottom of the hole that was about an inch in size. CRAP. I put the plug back in the hole and ran the coil back over the spot. I got the same good signal again. I removed the plug and checked the bottom of the plug rather than the bottom of the hole with the ProPointer. About and inch from the bottom of the plug was a 1943 Silver Washington Quarter. I've been down the back that curb several times before with other detectors and missed that silver quarter. It pays to go back over the same location with different detectors and different angles of attack.

I decided to call it a day and regroup for tomorrow's hunt.

Wait a minute...you left the house looking for a war nickel and found a silver Q? That detector doesn't sound like its any good at all! Tell you what, I'll send you a war nickel for that silver Q? By war nickel you mean one dated from Desert Storm right? (great post and lots of good luck to you!)

Yeah, me too, I hate when that happens. Few years ago, I decided to use my Silver to hunt an gold mining ghost town for relics or maybe coins.
Instead found 2, 1 gram gold nuggets instead. I love surprises.

Tab I will try that aproach , Im going looking for a war nickle next time out , looks like some older bottle caps and tab, , I like the railway token, thats nice , and the silver quarter is stuning, WHAT A GREAT FIND" it looks like it has 15 years of circulation on it at least may be 20 nice wear on it , may have been lost in the early 60,s bugs can ruin it for shure.

Congats tabman! Bugs or no bugs, it sounds like it was a worthwhile hunt to me. But then I wasn't the one taking the hits from the little buggers.

Thats it Tabman, from now on I am only hunting war nickels!
