Tesoro Vaquero Problem

MEV

New member
Hello, i have a friend that has a tesoro vaquero, great machine and deep, buy lately hi has been having trouble, he told me that when he finds a target the vaqueros response when detecting a target is late, for example when the coil passes above the target , when it was working well it beeped immediately and now that beep comes about one second later and he has been struggling , he has been taking a lot of garbage, and hi also told me that the ground balance button gets it down , before it didnt happend........i hope you can tell what could that be thanks

Does he have another coil to use on it, that would rule out a defective coil.

II don't understand when he stated " the ground balance button gets it down".. this button is for all metal function for pinpointing and can be used as a short cut to all metal for ground balancing.
Could it be possible the detector is falsing off of iron being the reason for the delayed response? I believe I have heard this as called "overshooting". Is the trash he is digging iron or other various types of metal?
I have a Vaquero and I have never had this symptom it mine.

He needs to call Tesoro and talk with them, that would be better then us guessing. I have had that happen over very trashy ground. Detector was over whelmed and just could not keep up. Swing speed had a lot to do with it.

thanks for your response when he stated "the ground balance button gets it down" i really did not under stand him , as i said i dont use this detector, i will ask him :)

Ok he said that before all the problems begin when he balanced the detector it was balanced always in the red line that's in the top of the ground balanced button (-)--------(+)

When the problem started he told me that the detector only balanced out of the red line , it goes all the way down just like in this picture ...as you can sea the green arrow, that's where it balanced before the problem started and now it only balances where there is no red line .all the way down ,.....we have been in many places and this never happened before

That ground adjustment knob is a 3 3/4 turn pot meaning it can be turned up to 3 3/4 turns before it reaches the end of its adjustment, BUT it will turn continuously in both directions.
There is a slight drag when it is turned past its max or min adjustment, but this will not damage the pot or detector... just does not provide any adjustment to the setting.
My guess is that the ground where this is occuring has a different soil make up and possibly he is not balancing the detector properly.. not saying this is what's going on, just my guess from the information I have.
Also remember to make sure that the ground you are trying to balance out is clean and free of any metal.. this is easy to forget in the rush to check out a new site.. I have done it myself.
Other than that, I don't have any other ideas.
I have a Vaquero and it is 7 years old and never had a problem with its operation if it properly ground balanced.
Hope this is of some help to your buddy

I had all sorts of problems with my Vaq. lol

All it needed was the coil wire snugged right up. use a pair of pliars to put just a bit more than hand tightness on it.
Everytime it acted up it was the same thing. good luck

The ground balance is not something that is set for life as stated above it needs to be adjusted or checked with each hunt. As stated above the GB knob can be spun an infinite number of times in either direction but only 3 3/4 turns bring it to the end of its adjustment clock wise to + and counter clockwise to - . This is why you must calibrate the GB knob!
To calibrate the GB knob turn knob counter clockwise 5 times passing the 12 o'clock position and stopping at the 12 o'clock position on the 5Th time around. Then rotate GB knob 2 times clock wise stopping at the 12 o'clock position. This procedure brings the GB into roughly the middle of its range and now you need to proceed to GB detector as stated in manual over metal free ground knowing that the effective rotation of the GB knob is not going to exceed 2 complete turns in either direction + or - .
I have experienced the bad coil connection as mentioned above so check that out also and check all aspects of the headphones and battery and battery compartment.

Minas man
