I thought I'd give the Vaquero a workout today to see how it would do. I put on my 8 inch special doughnut coil to start with. I set the discrimination to the point where a Gatorade sports drink foil cap just discriminates out, set the threshold to a slight hum, ground balanced to a slight neutral, and was able to run full sensitivity with very little chatter. Right off the bat I found a 925 silver earring about 2 inches deep under a bush. Not a bad start. I moved over to a grassy area close to the parking lot and started digging all kinds of trash. Hidden in all that trash was a 1944 war nickel, 1914 wheat penny, a bunch of modern coins, a cool looking skeleton key and some kind of scary artwork thingy. With the heat bearing down, I decided to take a Gatorade break and change to the Sharpshooter coil to see how it would work on the Vaquero. My first target was a rotten zinc penny. The very next signal I got sounded loud but good. I heard someone say are you having any luck? I stuck my digger in the ground to mark target I just found and pulled off my headphones to talk. I told her not really, that I was mostly finding just junk and clad coins. She said she heard that guys who metal detect find all kinds of treasure and gold. I told her that metal detecting is kinda like going to a casino, you hear about all the big winnings but you never hear anything about all the big loses. I dig mostly junk. Well she said, I wish you'd find your gold treasure today. She left and I went back to dig the target that I just found. Damn, I popped a gorgeous 8 gram 14K gold ring that was around 2 inches deep. That girl must be a Ginnie. I wonder if I rubbed her chest and made a wish it come true. Maybe a gold ring loaded with a bunch of great big ole diamonds.
You have to dig some trash to find the good stuff. Tesoro ROCKS!!!!!
