Hi all, this is my first post here in the Tesoro section and I'm looking for advice. I have just purchased a Tesoro Vaquero off Ebay here in Aussie. I already have a Garrett AT Pro and wanted a back-up unit and the Vaquero seemed too good to pass up. What I need to know is: Is the Vaquero a good detector? Is there anything I need to look for as regards problems? It only arrived a couple of days ago and I haven't had the chance to test it in the field yet, but I must say it is in excellent condition and it's so light, it has the 9x8 concentric coil fitted. Have I done the right thing????? I look forward to your replies.
No worries mate just take you a lash at it and enjoy, I was in perth and fremantle during my marine days, what part of australia are you from? HH Hank.
I also have a Vaquero and it is a very good detector... lightweight, only uses one 9 volt battery, can detect deep, very sensitive, and lifetime warranty.. what else could you ask for??
You made a very good choice,
Felix
Hi Cocksie46, You for true done the right thing and you will come to love theVaq! It loves thin "very deep" silver. I watched my Buddy dig the deepest coin I have ever seen dug with any machine with his Vaq. It was a good solid signal all the way down as he was taking care not to damage what he knew was likely a goodie.I just stood there with my mouth open as he had to dig a little deeper each time. Dang right! Vaq. is a fine machine and you will be glad you got it! HH, Charlie
cocksie46, check out the videos by 53silver in particular on youtube. He is a member here and really knows the Vaquero. You'll get good info. You definitely made a good decision! Congratulations and welcome to the forum!!
My guess is your Garrett will end up being a back up. The Vaquero is an awesome detector and is built much better than the Garrett detector. Enjoy the new Tesoro....HH.
Wow!!!! Thanks for all the replies fellas, I really appreciate it. Yes, I checked 53 silver's videos on YouTube, very informative and now I know I've done the right thing The wife and I took the Vaquero out for the first time to the local school ground today and using 53 silvers settings found $6.00 in coins (around 4" deep) and then the wife had a swing and found a nice little silver ring with 2 hearts (6" deep) - this was her first try at detecting and she was over the moon. Somehow I think I may have lost ownership of the Vaquero to the wife lol Hank I live in a small town called Lindenow South in Eastern Victoria, about 160 miles from Melbourne. Anyway find attached photo of the silver ring.

Excellent day one! Congrats to you and your wife. Best advise I can give you is, make sure you are overlapping your coil swings. I overlap by at least 30% on every swing. When a friend of mine told they hunted an area and their buddy came through and found a Barber Dime, the first thing I asked was "are you overlapping your swings"? He started questioning his md when it was simply his technique. It's not a race, and you'll never know it's there unless you coil's over it.
The machine you bought will hold it's own with just about any detector on the market !
You will most likely finding yourself using it more than any other machine that you own.
