Tesoro Vaquero + 5.75 Concentric Coil

I just ordered one. I can't wait to give it a try.

I'd like to hear from those who have used the Vaquero with the 5.75 concentric coil? What should I expect?

Tabman, I bought one when i bought my V but I really haven't used it yet. I did just air test it against the 9 x 8 stock coil and It seemed consistantly about 1/2 to 1 inch less in depth no matter if it was in all metal or practically full disc. A silver dime hits about 6.5" at 10 sensitivity, 1 notch below full disc, and threshold at 1 oclock.

Just a little less depth with a smaller footprint sounds like the coil to have in really trashy parks. It might unmask some really nice treasures.

tabman - You are going to love the 5.75" H.O.T. coil. On small stuff it can go deeper than the stock coil. Only on dime size and up does it have less depth.

Anybody compared the concentric and the widescan DD 5.75"?
Can they be found for under $110?

That would be an interesting comparison. I have the 5.75" widescan for my Cibola. Works very well. Goes very deep for it's small size. When I first decided to get the 5.75" I had a hard time choosing between the concentric and the widescan. I decided on the widescan cause I never tried a DD coil before and wanted to see how good it was. I'm very pleased with it. Would love to hear feedback on the concentric. You can get either coil for $101 from Colonial Metal Detectors. That is where I bought mine from. Get great service from Rich. I just ordered the 8.5" widescan coil from him. Should get it tomorrow.

I don't see much if any depth difference between it and the 9x8. Not only is it great in trashy areas, but being a solid coil(not spoked) it works very well in the woods without getting tangled in brush or vines, same thing in parks under bushes etc.

I've heard that the DD design is better in high mineral soil.
If the widescan coil is noticeably better in high iron soil, like where I live, then it might be another step in making my Cibola a better machine...just like adding 10 turn external GB. I feel sorry for all those people who got a Cibola with the ground balance a shade off. Mine was about worthless the way it was set when I got it...which leads me to another important thread to start...

I wonder if you would need to get the coil tuned to the detector? Or is that only for models with out GB.

It's my understanding that coil tuning is only needed for detectors without a ground balance. I'm still fuzzy about all that though.
