Tesoro use in Southern California

Craig

New member
I am considering getting a Tesoro ( Tejon or Vaquero) for use here in Southern California. It's seems that as I get older I just can't swing my White detectors as long as I use too:confused: My eyes are failing just can't seem to see a VDI screen clearly. So I just rely on tones. I have been searching around for a lite weight detector and Tesoro seems to meet the weight requirements I am looking for.
I would like to know how they seem to handle the ground here in California and the Mojave desert? Are they silent or have a slight hum when they are G.B. right, during search? What Depth do you see with them (6" to 8" is all I am looking for)?
Also I like the Warranty (Lifetime:clapping:)

You might consider a Tesoro Golden Umax as it is a multi-tone screenless machine too. You could have it factory tuned to your area if you sent it in, as it is not manually adjustable. But it has some features the other Tesoros don't. I have been thinking I might enjoy one for our mild soil here.

usually I like a 2-tone audio to help classify iron with a low, bassy audio tone, but for some coin hunting tasks a multi-tone detector can be fun.

Both ought to work okay because they provide Ground Balance control and that is a mush-have, in my book. I've hunted quite a few places in Oregon, Utah, Arizona and California where models with a factory preset GB just couldn't cut it. Also, with coil changes it is an asset to have operator control of the GB setting.

My age and health have also cut down on the time duration I can spend with the White's and Minelab so I, too, have gone with a lighter, handier detector. It sure makes a difference!

Yes, the eyes don't work quite as well, but as long as the model in use has large-enough display information, I still enjoy having that option.

When it comes to Tesoro models, my favorite that has a tone function has been the Euro Sabre because I can opt to use it to classify ferrous from non-ferrous targets pretty well. My White's MXT does a little better job as does my Tek Omega. The Euro Sabre's weight and balance fall somewhere between these two models. Of these, the MXT provides an auto-tracking circuitry that you can lock, the Euro Sabre provides manual Ground Balance, and the Omega has an auto-balance function as well as manual Ground Balance.

As for audio tones, the Tej

Thanks for your reply! I always value your input on all detector subjects:clapping:. I am holding onto my White's XL Pro, which I believe was the best White's detector ever made. But that too is starting to get heavy, but I can see the needle on the meter easier than a LCD screen. Plus I enjoy the tone of the XL Pro. MY DFX Just hangs in the Garage collecting dust.
My decision to go with a Tesoro is because of the weight, manual GB , Lifetime Warranty & slection of coils.

Also, like you, while I like the analog function and needle display, the weight gets to this achy old phart in a hurry. Therefore, I mostly hunt with a much, much lighter, yet efficient, detector. It helps keep me going and keeps the 'fun factor' there, which starts to wain after things get heavy or fatiguing.

Happy Hunting to you,

Release the 'alt' key and type MAX and then you don't have to type 'micro'.
