Tesoro Toltec II ???

Anyone know anything about the Tesoro Toltec II. I am thinking of purchasing one. How good is the analog meter on them and is this detector sensitive, is the depth ok,etc. Thanks. Steve.

The meter is accurate on coins. I haven't dug any jewelry with it, but I hunt mostly ghost towns with this detector. It is deadly on nickles, and silver coins. IH cents read at the upper end of the pull tab range on the meter. The depth indicator is general, but it gives you enough of an idea that you can keep from damaging a target when digging. Several others here will give you a lot better information. Hombre? Are you out there?

Howdy Steve

Since this is an out of production Tesoro, and is not a well known about, obscure detector, I don't think I will elaborate on it's vertues on here. And since you PMed me, I just wrote my thoughts about the Toltec ll in my PM back to you. Good luck in your decision...........Hombre

I read your pm, thanks I appreciate it. Hombre. Steve.

I appreciate you fellas replies very much but I thought that Monte would jump all over this. Oh Monte where are you..... Steve.

BTW Here is a picture of the Toltc II.

To me, it seemed a sort of interim job, whipped up in order to have something to market with a meter. Sort of an amalgam of ideas, it didn't seem to offer much more than was already available at the time. This is to say it works, like any Tesoro does. But unless you just gotta have it, keep in mind it didn't last long. Unless the price was a steal, I dont think I'd take the plunge.

Howdy dahut

You are right about it not lasting long, and then it was a long time before Tesoro came out with the Cortez. I had the opertunity to try out a Deleon and my Toltec ll, side by side for a week. The Toltec meter, as it is analog was better for me than the LCD screen. I guess it is what you are used to. The depth of detection is about the same, but the nod goes to the Toltec because it has a sweeter audio responce, in other words it is more of the old analoge type audio. Not trying to argue Bud, as I have 5 other detectors to play with, but the Toltec ll ranks right up there, and I have had it for 14 yrs. So I know it like the back of my hand. It is the detector that found the crossed cavalry sabers in my one and only picture post " Old homestead treasures from the land of OZ" Have a good'n...........Hombre

No argument from me. Like I said, its a Tesoro, so it works... especially in the hands of a devoted user.
But unless it's a too-good to-pass up price, I'd consider spending my money on some upgrade technology.

I paid $180.00 for it delivered. It's enough but could very well be worth every penny of it. Will let you know how it does when I get it (weather permitting). Steve.

Howdy Steve

That's a good price for one, plus if it needs adjustment, just send it to Tesoro they will take care of it. I just sent in a friend of mine's Toltec ll for him, it came back with a new coil, new lower coil rod , and checked out. It cost him $15 for shipping!!!!!!!
Tesoro's sevice dept. is top notch, Thanks Rusty.................Hombre
