i just got a new tiger shark and am having trouble distinguishing good targets from bad. any tips ?

Welcome to the best Tesoro forum on the net.......

I will begin my 15th season this year with my Tiger Shark, mine is the older version with inter-changeable search coils.

In order to diagnose your problem, you need to post your tuning settings.

There are 3 search modes, All-metal Fast, All-Metal Slow and motion Discrimination.

Also good to know whether you are ground balanced properly, where do you run your Disc.for instance I run mine at 2 or 3 depending on trash.

All non ferrous targets produce a high pitched "quack".... rusty beer bottle caps produce a lower pitched quack.

i haven't had a lot of time to use it yet. i need to work with the disc more. also the threshhold noise seems a little loud. i haven't tried in the water yet ,just on a volleyball court where there isn't much trash

You can adjust the threshold inside the box. You just want a nice soft hum. I like the soft hum when I hunt in all metal. You will get a little more depth. You will hear a very slight rise in the tone. That will be a deep one or it could be a chain. Good luck.. KEN... IND.

dennis in mi,
Welcome to the forum!

Have you metal detected before getting the Tiger Shark? When you say "having trouble distinguishing good targets from bad" I'm not sure if you mean you are getting false signals with no metal found when you dig or if you are getting good hits on metal with the Tiger Shark and digging a lot of trash.

Like Ken says, the threshold can be adjusted and should be soft, not loud. If you don't have a manual with it, the Tesoro web page has links to an on-line manual that describes setting the adjustments.
Cheers,
tvr
