Tesoro Tiger Shark

I am looking to purchase a new fresh water detector as a back up and for my wife to use. We live in the Midwest and though I already own a Mine lab Excalibur II I would like a machine that was better at small gold and from what I read will find chains. The Excal is a little heavy and cumbersome for the wife, so I thought I would look into something a little smaller and lighter.

Would like your opinions on my straighted needs, and how it performs on small gold and chains.

Your in put would be much appreciated. Rick IL

Some complain the tigershark is heavy but I put the control under the elbow and it balances the coil that way. You could also mount the control to your belt. I have yet to use mine in fresh water as it has been a little cold. I am absolutely pleased with how well the 8 inch coil works in trash for coins. We are planing a beach trip next month and the local swimming holes will see me soon as well. The audio with the headphones is superb. Careful though you may find yourself getting a Tesoro too.

The Tiger Shark is my go to machine. I love the tones it gives off. I for one think it is a tad heavy, after swinging it for an hour by arm is killing me (inner elbow joint). I've tried to hip mount it but it just does not lay right and I'm afraid of wrecking the cords. I'll have to try chest mounting it one of these days.

I hip mount it and position it toward the rear of my back seems to do well for me, I love the duck sound it makes ! It's a great machine to have! Tigerhank68

I will I use suspenders to help to take the weight off the belt.

I owned a Sting Ray for a number of years and it was a trouble free machine. Though I never used it on land a lot it's weight and audio was great in water. Is this machine comparable?

I have the tiger and find it very comfortable swinging compared to my excal. Fresh water, I usually go with the Tiger for sure!

We are planning a beach trip for next month. I tested tiger out yesterday on the Columbia river . No problems in the wet. The beach was pretty clean though and only found 5 cents deepest 6 inches and a couple pieces of lead a good 8 inches deep, and these hits happening in an area full of nails that the other detectorests had avoided.

The dry sand had faulting issues and a small area of very black sand was impossible. The probe sounded every place I stuck it in this sand as well. Not wanting to open the machine and change the sensitivity just yet, I then called it quits.

Today I returned to my local park with TS and rehunted an area I had hunted with the Quattro last month and now pulled $1.53 in a little over an hour. There was a 77 Canadian Quarter that I may have passed over rejecting as a pull tab or higher because it is made from 100% nickel but ID higher due to size.( air test as high as zinc on deleon and quattro)

I hunted at 90 degrees from my first hunt, but I think the main reason I found so much was the Quattro sens had to be lowered to keep it from hitting all the nails that were just a little deeper than the coins. It was raining today and that made choosing the tiger pretty easy.

The Tiger Shark is now my go to machine , but for the ocean trip I will take the Quattro as a backup for dry sand should that present a problem. I will however tweak the sens on theTS if needed.
I plan to hit the local lakes in August after the water warms enough for people to swim much. In September the reservoirs are always dropped and that is when most of the detecting takes place. The plan is to get the jump on them!
