Tesoro Tejon :tesoro::usaflag: Digging Deep Today :detecting:

I decided to give my Tejon with the 8 inch doughnut coil a little swing time today. I haven't used it for awhile and it takes a little getting used to, because it has a language of its own. It's audio is totally different from the Vaquero and Cibola but it really gets after those deep nickels. I found 12 of them today and 3 of them were 1943 war nickels. Most of the nickels and wheat pennies were deep except for one war nickel. I couldn't believe how shallow it was. One of the war nickels was so tarnished that I didn't know it was a war nickel until I got home and cleaned on it some. The small area that I found them in has been pounded by other detectors. I also found a couple of wheat pennies (1936, 1944), a Depose statue, a button and a junk ring. It's fun to swing different detectors and coils over the same hunted area to see what pops up.

I remembered to take a picture of my junk pile today.:)

Great job on the nickels. No doubt others probably notched them out. It's neat to take something like the Tejon to a hunted out area and get the stuff others missed.

Now thats a junk shot! :surprised: Thats a hell of a haul on war nickels, Tab! Congratulations! They are a buck a piece easy...

tabman, do you think the vaquero or Cibola would have found those nickel s the same today? I just picked up the 8" donut for my vaquero off of the forum here. Can't wait to give it a try on the vaquero. I just sold off my Tejon so I'm hoping the vaquero with the new coil will give me the little extra depth when I need it for certain spots. thanks for sharing your finds!

They would have probably found them if I had the 8 inch doughnut or 9 x 8 inch stock coil attached. I've been using the NEL Sharpshooter and really like it a lot because it covers ground really fast, but it gets an inch or so less in depth. All round, I'd pick the Vaquero for jewelry and coin detecting over the Tejon. It just runs smoother and is easier to use especially how I set it up. Me liking the Vaquero more could be from me not using the Tejon enough to feel real comfortable with it. It's different animal for sure.

Wow! That Tejon is quite the machine to pick up those nickels at that depth! I've been reading up on it and watched a couple online demos of the Tejon vs other machines - Christmas is coming and I'm trying to get my 10-yr old nephew "hooked" on detecting lol!

It's either get my dad a Deus and the nephew gets the CZ6, or get him something as a first machine. Haven't decided which way to go yet...

If those are 1943 P war nickels always check for the 1943/2 overdate!!!

Before deciding on anything, let me loan y'all a few of my Tesoros to use to see what you think about them.

Honestly from watching you dig, I think you're a Tesoro user at heart.

cool tab,

:thumbup:tabman, looks like you had a good hunt. The Tejon has a thing for deep nickels and wheatey's ,it also has a thing for coins on edge and at odd angles.I had a Tejon for about seven years found lot of goodies with it, but I alway had a hard time telling if the target was 8 inches or two inches they both were loud and clear .is there a way to get a softer sound on the deep stuff? I know I was having to giving up on a lot of deep targets because of lack of time!!!

I'm not an expert when it comes to using the Tejon. I have used the Vaquero and Cibola a lot more. The Tejon is different from them. It doesn't run as smoothly. I dig iffy signals with it that I wouldn't with the Vaquero and Cibola. I'm not sure if the Tejon is picking up on coins that are on edge that the Cibola and Vaquero can't detect or what, but those iffy signal turn out to be good targets most of the time. Sometimes I get a signal that's really loud and clear that leads me to believe that it's a coin that's close to the surface, but the coin turns out to be 6+ inches deep. On the other hand, I can dig a coin that's gives a choppy weak audio signal and the coin will only be a few inches deep. Another thing that I've noticed about the Tejon, it's recovery speed is blazing fast. Even faster than the Cibola and Vaquero. Bottom line, it's a great detector to have in your arsenal, but it's going to take time to learn its language.

I'm sure some of the long time users of the Tejon including yourself can share more info about how to use it than I can. I'm just a greenhorn when it comes to using it.:)
