Last Sunday I went to the woods, in a high mineralised area (with nasty variations) , with my three HOT Tesoros (Cibola with GB modding, Vaquero and Tejon UK version) and the 12x10 DD coil.
I did some tests of ground balancing with same settings with these results:
1) CIBOLA with added 10 turns pot manual ground balancing ---------------------> Smooth as silk, no problems at all;
2) VAQUERO standard ---------------------------------------------------------------------------> Hard to ground balance, too sensitive, just a micron to become + or - offset;
3) Tejon standard ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> No way, I tried to get a neutral Gb with no results. It was too negative or too positive, so I hunt with a offset detector;
After these tests I got convinced that 10 turns GB is more than necessary if Your hunting zones are very hot. Even if the Vaquero got balanced it was too difficult to maintan top performances.
My Tejon has warranty expired, so I decided to modify it, changing the 3,75 turns pot with the 10 one.
As You can see from the below picture (10 pot on the left - 3,75 pot on the right), different dimensions of pots and lack of space makes impossible a simple exchange from old to new.
So I decided to invert positions of threshold pot and GB one. I had to drill and enlarge threshold hole to make GB shaft to fit in.
Then I solderd red, white and black wires following this scheme with numbered lugs (Red 1 - White 2 - Black 3) and inserted pots in their new positions and mobo without forcing it.
Some o rings under the knobs and that's all.
Now I'll play with a computer graphic software to change labels and print on adhesive paper.
I wanna let You know that am not a maniac of modding, and that in my grounds this is a more than necessary mod.
Take r,
