tesoro tejon cable problem

Just got this in the mail saturday afternoon.
bought it off groundsman and it came with a 5" coil.
supposedly it has a mod switch that is supposed to tell you if it is a nickle or tab?
I set it up today and followed the instrcutions but couldn't get it to work but one thing I did notice is the first time I turned it on the volume was up all the way and I couldn't lower it.
I turned it off and pulled out my earphones and turned it on again and it was alright.
Wrong-It did it intermittently and the problem is where the cable goes into the coil right at the cable support.
can you replace these cables?
I emailed groundsman but he has not replied yet.
I would like to return it but I have a funny feeling-I will wait for his reply.
I can't send it in to tesoro because of the mod.

To my knowledge, the Tejon does not have a volume control at all. It has a control to change the tone.

If you are certain that the coil cable is bad, you can return the coil to Tesoro. They will test it and let you know what they decide. If the coil is bad, they may replace it. It the cable/coil has been abused, they probably will not replace it.

New coils are not that expensive for the Tejon, especially used

I know it does not have a volume but a thresold control in all metal mode it has good volume but this is a maxed out volume.
I just paid $400 for it with the extra coill that I just got it yesterday from USPS.
He may not have noticed it if it was intermittent and he didn't use it very often.
I feel I am entittled to my money back I believe-I don't think I want to fool with it

I would suggest that you call Tesoro and tell them what your situation is and though the Tejon has been moded , you still have a situation that needs to fixed, so just ask them to please fix it and charge you whatever it takes to get the fix.I know Tesoro is more about the business of taking care of their customers and machines than are most other detector companys, and if need be you may can just send the coil alone in for repair, but under the circumstances it would be better if they did agree to fix if for a fee, you could get the machine and coil both fixed and tuned..A phone call would let you find out just what can be done, and that way you would know just what to expect. Tesoro folks are very good folks to deal with, and always have been. HH, Charlie
