Was the only one who dug a pit. End of story!! Try and spin this!!!

I'm sure I'm not the only one who takes advantage of such a beautifull Sunday afternoon to partake of some delicious suds....so my level of understanding is not up to par today. <img src="/metal/html/wink.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=";)">

Saw pictures of other Tesoro team members in pits in the Trash Dumps photo gallery

has some pit digging pics with his Tejon and I think I remember some others also. Does it really matter? Once you go to pit digging it's not a contest between brands anymore in my opinion.

Who needs to spend a zillion dollars and countless hours arguing over which detector is best when all you need is a stinkin' $10 hardware-store shovel and a $200 entry fee to be a friggin' hero for awhile amongst the metal detecting community?
Christ Almighty, we all just must be really stupid or something.

Call me old fashioned but I wanted to only surface hunt the two days when points were being counted. I did dig a pit on the last day when it was "just for fun".

You were not there so how do you know who dug pits and who did not? Several of the Team Tesoro Folks dug pits on the first and 2nd day. Kevin just happened to dig some really good ones.
Kevin also made some great finds surface hunting as well. I saw him pull some buttons in an area that was too trashy for most folks to hunt. He took his time and picked out a couple of keepers.

point out what many believe and that is it's the operator much more than the detector. 4 of the first 7 places were not earned by the "latest and greatest" Tesoro but with older Tesoros including the Shadow X2. I was at the 2000 gnrs for Tesoro and pit digging was not allowed. I guess that was changed and starting with the 2001 hunt it was allowed. That was the end of the brand competition such as it was as even before when pit digging was not allowed it was apparent that it was operator skills far more than what detector they were using that determined the final results.
Congratulations on your finds Brian and glad you had a good time. Others are not so happy!
Good Hunting, ArtWI

I was right there with you on Team Tesoro. The huts For sure are productive if you get in a good one....so I hear..haha Don't have any in my area as them Boys just shot on through here. I remember them being off limits and I do believe I was onto one after digging barrell bands and all kinds of iron signal left. I played by the rules and let it go. I understand both sides and its a hard issue. I really wonder what, if anything, the manufacturers think about it. The ones who get into the competition and donate detectors and give away premiums to the team members, etc deserve some thought. The machines with very good all metal audio sure have the advantage in that digging. I agree with you that the competition of pure metal detecting takes a back seat in hut digging, regardless of how much fun or productive it is. HH
