:tesoro::starwars:SPEAKER ISSUE

A speaker takes a lot of energy, remember the planet is going green, the new thing right, metal detection technology is included in this new game,a metal detector that only takes one 9v verses one that takes12volts is a good thing, and the one that takes 9v out preforms the 12v is a great thing, like others mention, landfills, more energy to be produced, global warming etc..the bad out weighs the good, especially the fact that contaminates easily find the way through the speaker holes, magnetic particles are attracted to speaker magnets, any excess in production of items not needed.A Sealed control box is important for outdoor electronic equipment, remove speaker, two LED Lights, for battery check,so you don't have to hear check in type of headphones(i used earbuds today and could hear everything around me,and still hear faint signals)and the LEDS are very low power draw, red dead green good,oh went outback today VQ found a nice musket ball, earbuds and all.Chuck of charleston,SC.

Sorry, having no speaker is just impractical. Plus, the headphone jack
disconnects the speaker, so there's no battery drain.
Also, in my 40 years of detecting I have NEVER had any particle
contamination in a speaker problem. As Shakespeare said, some
things are simply much ado about nothing.

Hay WAYNE/TX Where you been hunting for 40 years your bedroom,Charles Garret has had a problem with it,may be because he took his detector to his backyard?Chuck.

Hay Marcome, don't bring the kids up in this, raidio shack parallel head phone jack plug, let the kid really hear a detector give his sister the pinpointer, what about the hearing impaird, replace speaker with leds vary up in colour and brightness, vibration on hand grip, give the deaf and the kids a chance.

See what i mean, you can't teach an old dog new tricks,if a company can stream line a product, weigh less, protect electronic circuits, visual target on face plate with low power LED'S(light emitting diodes),less battery drain, not talking about LCD(Liquid crystal display),Which has higher battery drain, and requires more voltage to operate,to help hearing impaird,i think it could be some things to think about, and the fact that moisture can get into electronics,i don't know maybe my thinking is bad.Chuck.

Chuck - Nothing wrong with a difference in opinion, but condescending and sarcastic comments like this when someone disagrees with you doesn't help foster a good discussion.

And I will bring the kids up in this, because when they are along I want to use the speaker. Not dual headphones or earbuds linked with a splitter, the speaker.

Also in certain areas because of wildlife (or human wildlife) the absolute safest way to hunt is with no headphones.

I'm not going to argue with you as far as particle contamination through the speaker hole. I'm sure it can happen.

But if you never use the speaker just cover the hole and then it definitely won't happen to you.

As far as weight goes, Tesoro's are already super light. I've never heard anyone say "I wish Tesoro's were lighter."

And, if I'm not mistaken, most of the non-metered Tesoros do use one 9V battery.

Before your post, I don't think I've ever read a post advocating getting rid of detector speakers. Making Wayne's Shakespeare comment appropriate: much ado about nothing.

What does going green have to do with detecting. I for sure would not want a detector with LED lights which signal green for good batteries and red for bad. Where is the in-between on battery life? Besides my detector uses less battery energy for battery life because it just beeps when I turn it on and then that circuit is dead, while your led light would burn whenever the detector is switched on. Battery cost is part of detecting, just like gasoline, not a factor for me. I get over 15, and possibly much more hours from my eight AA batteries, and gasoline at $4 a gallon did not stop me from getting out. When my battery indicates my batteries are starting to get weak, usually three beeps and their gone, then I change them. The used batteries are great for my gps and mouse for this computer, and last a long time, but I want power when I detect. Contaminants in the speaker? Most electronic devices that emit sounds today has some sort of speaker, and speakers have been around for a long time. My televisions; telephones; car stereos; earphones; just to name a few have no symptoms of contamination from anything. I will take the 12 volt detector over the nine volt any day, longer battery life. So far as the ear buds, with a good set of headphones you may have found much more than one musket ball.

Thanks everyone for helping with this issue everyone is right then,a speaker is not really needed in professional detecting equipp, kids models, sure, good headphones when not needing to hear surroundings, earbuds when you need to hear surroudings.Chuck.

Chuck - Your posts sometimes have a tendency to ramble, but as best I can figure here you're stating your opinions like they're unquestioned fact agreed upon by everybody who's replied.

It all comes down to personal preference. I have no interest in using ear buds, you have no interest in using a speaker.

HUH?????

Had electronics engineer tell me that i was right on speaker issue, electronic compartment should be completely protected at all cost,if detectors speaker can be done away within control box,get rid of it,it is potential source of problem for moisture and other contaminates into electronics.man do i feel better!.Chucky

Chuck
Hope all is well at your end of the Green Globe, my question is simple, who are you ????,You seem to wind people up a lot, take the Piss so to speak Why?
I bet you can not name anyone on the Forum who knows you, or anyone met you ?.Hope I'm wrong, tell you what give us all a nice Photo of your good self with the Vaq you claim to have,i will then say I'm sorry sorry sorry,
