Tesoro Silver Sabre UMax--WOW!!

I picked up a Sabre U max in a detector trade a week or so ago. I was hesitant of doing the deal but the gentleman said he would also throw in the Silver Umax. Well I have a little buddy that has been following me around detecting for the last 5 years. He lives across the street from this one park I hunt in. He always looks for my car as as soon as I get there he is on me like nothing! Like I said this has been going on for 5 years now. He always asks me "when are you going to bring a detector for me to use" Well I have been hesitant to let him run my Explorer or MXT. (To complicated and to costly!) So I picked up the Umax for him to use. Today I took it out to make sure everything is working on it. All I can say is I am majorly impresssed! Only had about a half hour due to rain but this thing is DEEP! Dug nothing but clad but I picked up 2 bottle caps that were an 1 inch or so past my Lesche digger and they weren't faint signals either. So now I have a detector for my buddy to use that is a great machine! You don't hear much about these machines but they are great!

Were the bottle caps the crown type beer bottle caps?

If so, getting them that deep is impressive because they're not great conductors. Not like a copper or silver coin would be.

Sensitivity at 10,zero disc amd slight threshold hum. Both pinpointed dead center of the hole to!

Sounds like you like it so much - I wonder if you really are going to let yer little buddy use it.
I think your little buddy is going to see you as one of his best buddies. Sounds neat - WTG :twodetecting:

since I discovered the Silver uMax. I've also sold my Nautilus IIb.

Warning though my friend, people will think you're nuts so be careful how much you brag up this little Silver. And too, do we really want this to get around?

Like you I bought my first Silver Sabre I about a month ago. I couldn't put it down. Right off I dug coins like crazy in one of my hardest worked sites.

Then I bought the Silver Sabre II and yesterday the Silver uMax arrived. WOW and double WOW! All 3 Silvers are great but I like the new uMax best.

Tonight at 10:45 p.m. Michigan time I slipped on the 12x10 inch coil and headed out into my dark yard where I haven't dug anything good for a very long time. Within minutes I dug a 1900 Indian head penny that took 4 or 5 full shovels full of dirt to reach! The coin was in the last shovel full of dirt. It was easily 12 inches deep. It was a nice loud signal with that famous mellow Tesoro coin sound.

I knew the 12x10 was deep because I had been using it on the Sabre II.

Get that 12x10 pal and that will probably be the last time you use your Minelab.

I already have a Tejon and Cibola, and a few other machines. And just today I ordered the Cortes.
I wonder if this means I need to get a Silver uMax to add to the team. :sadwalk:

I believe the Cortes is a uMax machine and should take the 12x10 coil. The coil is the main thing here because really all the Tesoros the same in depth (or very close).

Just move slowly and listen for those smaller lower but solid signals. The blasting signals are usually just junk clad and memorial cents. The good stuff is deep!

I too own a Silver

Do you have the Silver Sabre

Just got back from a quick hunt with it again. Found 3 wheats at around 8 inches, loud and clear to!

Are you using the stock coil? I wonder what other coil sizes are popular for the Silver uMax. I see you got the Sabre uMax.
Wonder is there any difference between the Sabre uMax and Silver uMax. From what I am seeing so far, one newer than the other.
I have my 3rd Tesoro on it's way. Does this mean I'll have to get a 4th? He He

How are they compared to the Vaquero?

Just remember, the term is "micro" MAX and not "You" ('U') MAX. Tesoro uses the electronic symbol for "micro" (
