Yes it is, 1996.
Still a good detector in todays terms. Similar to todays Silver umax.

Most of Tesoros detectors old and new share a similar platform and get similar depth.
Tesoro has a way of bringing out new models by adding or taking a way a feature from a previous model.
When they get it right, that particular model becomes a favorite, then Tesoro stops production for something new again....eventually the favorite hits cult status and remains in demand today.
There are a number of these favorites.
Overall you can't go wrong with any Tesoro model from 1990 to present. The only new detector Tesoro brought out since 2004 has been the Outlaw, again a Bandido II umax in different clothing.

The Tesoro metal detector chronology is:
1980: Deep Search VI, Deep Search IV, Deep Search VII
1981: Aztec, Cortes, Amigo
1982: Scout, Mayan
1983: Inca, Silver Sabre
1984: Sabre II, Sabre Supreme, Silver Turtle
1985: Golden Sabre, Cutlass
1986: Silver Sabre Plus, Eldorado, Royal Sabre
1987: Toltec 100
1988: Toltec 80, Diablo, 4 Reale, 8 Reale
1989: Golden Sabre Plus, Lobo
1990: Bandido, Pantera
1991: Diablo II, Silver Sabre II, Stingray, Laser B1
1992: Cutlass II, Golden Sabre II, Laser B2
1993: Bandido II
1994: Toltec II, Sidewinder
1995: Piranha, Stingray II, Laser B3
1996: uMax Bandido, uMax Cutlass, uMax Diablo, uMax Sidewinder, Amigo II
1997: Shadow X2, Lobo SuperTRAQ, Laser PowerMax, Bandido II uMax, Silver Sabre uMax
1998: Cutlass II uMax
1999: Sand Shark, Laser Rapier
2000: Conquistador, Compadre, Golden uMax, Tiger Shark
2001: Cortes, Conquistador uMax, Eldorado, Euro Sabre, Silver uMax
2003: DeLeon, Tejon
2004: Cibola, Vaquero

I think Dave J. was there a couple of years around 1995 - he worked on the Diablo μMax and the Lobo Supertrak.

just seems strange they have put out one new machine in 10 years and before that it was like every year or 2 have they reached the limit of analogue machines and what we have now is as good as it gets? not that I am complaining just a question/thought.
just seems like that reading the detector list.

Stalemate with tesoro.
Same old same old,but they are good for what they are.
But once you have the best then have, have no reason to buy again from tesoro because it will be a new paint job on the same old machines.

Word of advice the Sidewinder and a Garrett Propointer don't yeehaw together they run on the same frequency so they cross talk with each other during the use of the Propointer.
