Owned one. Excellent machine. One of the first in Tesoro's line of upper end Sabres.

Basically, the Royal Sabre (production started in April, 1986) followed closely on the heals of the 'original' Golden Sabre (which was first produced in February of 1985), and offered an All Metal pinpoint mode and the dual-tone Discrimination that the Golden lacked. A better control housing location, too, and it was a decent unit.
It was made for our US market, or anywhere Tesoro could get product in, and it was popular among coin hunters who wanted a notch discriminate detector.

We have been selling Tesoro detectors since 1983. When the Royal Sabre was in production, most dealers and users were not accustomed to the concepts both of tone ID and notch discrim. At Detector Electronics Corp, we considered the Royal Sabre the best thing since cake. When Tesoro decided to close the model out, we bought all they had. (I think about 50) We made many customers very happy. It is a fabulous unit!
