Tesoro Pantera excells...

Dan-Pa.

New member
19 or 20 years old and still going strong backed by a company that still has parts for it..

May be the best notch unit ever made by Tesoro and has audio variances not found in newer units. Add 10 turn ground balance which equates to more depth and stability, threshold adjustment and dead on pinpointing and you have a winner..

In addendum likes gold jewelry and has the audio variances to increase the odds versus gold jewlry and the trash that imitates it...to dig or not....

Hi Dan

The older ED120 Tesoros are great ! I still have my Pantera that I bought off of BJ(OK) its a nice hot specimen. I don''t use the notch feature on mine because a lot of nice targets come in at the pulltab range. (I don't hunt parks.) The pulltab notch works as intended, just don't use it. As far as finding gold jewelery, my Tiger Shark has found the bulk of gold rings. It's all about location in finding gold, and most of my gold has come from popular freshwater beaches. I have found gold from akle deep water to as deep as I can wade with the Tiger Shark and still keep my head above water. Thanks

Put unit in Disc..set the notch where a zinc penny gives you a double tone(high and low)..set your disc to accept med. foil or low foil if looking for extremely small gold rings...When you get a low tone go over the the hit in pinpoint several times...as gold is usually much heavier than the imitator will hold the tone longer..Sure a key or lead sinker could fool you but sure cuts down the odds to dig or not..Start with a large gold ring and square tab and work down to a thin gold ring and piece of foil and thru practice should pick up on the differences to give you an idea of my method..Again whatever works and takes a trained ear so good luck...
Not applicable to the four tone multiple notch golden U-max unless you devise your own system as some do between tones and notches...

Thanks Dan

You are right about the subtle differences of Tesoro's analog tones. I really like the modulated slow motin disc. circuit of the older Tesoros.

And the threshold based all-metal mode is great for sizing up a target.
