Tesoro or Fisher for fresh water?

I wasn't quite sure if I posted this in the right forum, and if not I apologize, but I figured you all would have the answers so here goes.

I've decided I want to try a water detector and am looking for advice. I will be hunting fresh water beaches and swimming holes. I have decided I'm either going to get a Tesoro or a Fisher. I have a Tesoro Bandido uMax (not the Bandido II) and an Amigo II. I started with a Garrett CX II and sold it after I got the Bandido.

I absolutely love the Bandido. I have made more good finds with it and I don't plan on getting rid of it. I think a big part of my success with it is that I have used it so much and really learned it's language. I like the audio response it gives even though it's not a multi tone machine.

My question is for the folks that have had or used both the Stingray II and the Tiger Shark. What are the main differences between the machines and which did you like better and why?

I personally am leaning toward finding a used Stingray II because I have read the audio on the Tiger Shark is "different" whereas the Stingray audio is more like the Bandido that I'm used to and prefer.

I'm also considering either a Fisher CZ-20/21 or a 1280X. Any input on either of these models would be appreciated as well. I think I would like the audio ID of the CZ's though.

From what I've read on the two, the Fisher seems to go deeper, but the Tesoros will get the smaller gold. Kind of a double edged sword... better depth to pick up rings or less depth for smaller gold (like gold earring posts that are attached to big diamonds!)

The Tesoro warranty, service and fact that I already own a couple is making me a little biased and I would appreciate any opinions.

Thanks, Festus

Hi festus;
I have the string ray 2. I use the 10 1/2" coil all the time. I moved the box back under the arm.
Fresh water all the time. It doesn't work good on wet salt beaches. I use Fisher CZ 7 for wet salt.
I hunt with some of the big boys and they don't do any better than me in fresh water. I do like the sound.
Just me.
Willard in Spokane.
