Tesoro Mojave owners

Go to the BEEP & DIG sub-forum that's where all the Tesoro owners reside and post. The info you seek will be there.

For the price range the Mojave is a steal, performance wise it does well as a coin shooter, relic hunter and has great sensitivity for those who hunt for gold jewelry.

Yesterday, The Mojave disappointed me but after trying another detector (top end) it too bad similar results of falasing. The two area's were covered in iron, thick blanket very terrible. Going to try again with the deus and a smaller coil with the top end not doing so well. The Deus, should do well it tends to not false as much under conditions as those.

Will try the Mojave again hopefully today, was using high mineral setting but the abundance of iron was too much for the little rascal.

Overall, I like the Mojave.

Definitely a great machine, especially at its price point.
The ground condition switch/circuit works great.
Makes it a great turn on and go detector if you have mineralized soil
and even wet salt sand by some accounts.
At max sensitivity it will hit 8" quarter in my test bed and
sometimes barely hits the 8" dime.
Also hits the coins I have buried with different combos of nails surrounding them.
But like OldCalifornia said sometimes the iron can be overwhelming, with any machine.
When you factor in a life time warranty it's probably the deal of he century.
I'm no pro but I hope it helps.

from my limited experience it hits on deeper big stuff which is a bit/lot? annoying but its a 250$ detector works great in cleaner sites, it has a place in my coin/jewellery squad.

My first two hunts purposely hunted a trashy County Fair parking lot. Having hunted the Compadre, had a little advantage. Good loud signal, raise coil , still loud, buried aluminum can. I'm saying get a scratchy sound with a good signal, junk. (Up to you )
Get that nice repeatable Tap-Tap. Dig. If you don't have experience with a machine like this , you will sure learn fast. My last hunt?
Area I hunted, had been hit. Even by myself. Found lots of pennies, after a few started learning the big alum. Checking the scratchy signals junk. So not a uncommon hunt. Hour and a half, 16 coins forty one cents. Hunting back to the Jeep, 2 quarter's and a dime, same hole. In my ground the MoJo has very good depth. Hunting 3/4 sensitivity , bottom line of nickel. Didn't dig one piece of iron. 7" coil right size for me. Traded my Compardre for this machine cause I can't keep em all. And not looking back.

Thanx Paul. You have experience with a multitude of machines, over decades, at all sorts of excellent "example sites". So your input is much appreciated. It sounds like (correct me if I'm wrong), that this is nothing more than another roll-out of various Tesoro 2-filter machines. Albeit with different bells and whistles, but .... otherwise, just the latest incarnation of the same. Eh ? Nothing wrong with that (they have their place), but not a "miracle worker" , eh ?

Don't forget, I have some vintage machines here in Salinas , for the next time you're on the coast. Or the next time I'm down your way. A few times I thought about boxing them up and shipping them off to you. But the rod lengths on the Metrotech would be a hassle. But don't worry, I'll get 'em to you some day ! ha :)

Hello Tom,

No hurry on the vintage detectors, I'll pick them up this spring and let's get out since I'm coming down. Beach or whatever I'm Happy with what ever it is.

Yes, The Mojave is OK with certain limited amounts of iron. One of the sites the Mojave struggled with was a black smith site, but so did a top end detector. Went back yesterday with the Deus and MX Sport with smaller coil, both fared better with the Deus having a slight edge.

Yes indeed, see you before Summer :)
