Tesoro models

Member
I'm kinda always looking for a new machine... :) I usually buy one or two machines a year. I just bought a Teknetics T2 and initial impressions are good. I also own a Explorer, 3D and Nautilus IIb. I usually sell the machines that don't fit my personal preferences. Anyways, I (for whatever reason) never looked at Tesoro's much. I mainly look for coins. My sites range from old iron ridden sites to parks. I've heard some of the Tesoro are good in iron. Thoughts on any of the Tesoro models for those type of sites? I don't know much about any of them. I don't trust field test reports posted on ANY manufacturers website for obvious reasons. I trust the people who use the machines and have nothing to gain by stating the pros/cons of a machine like you guys. Thanks.

Bill,

Spend $150 and get yourself a Compadre. Probably one of the best machines on the market in iron, pure simplicity, fun to use, and will make you think twice about what you grab as a casual coinshooter. Absolutely no bells and whistles beyond discrimination so you can concentrate on what's in the ground instead of playing with adjustments. The newer version with the 5.75 inch coil is a great little machine in the trash too. These little machines can prove to be a real embarassment to some of the big dogs on the market.

Ralph speaks the Gospel Bill! It is fun, light, simple, and finds coins. I am a Tesoro fan and I have had my best results with Tesoro instruments. I just wanted someone like Ralph to step in first. So there you go Bill. C everyone later and God Bless.

Hi Bill !
I know where your coming from with respect to manufacturers and what they have to say about "thier" detectors.
Although the 'compadre' is an awsome lil unit, your best bet to "delve" into the TESORO line of detectors is to go with the SILVER Umax detector. The reason I say this is because you can change coils on the Silver as the need arises. Tesoro also offers The "Clean-sweep coil". this is an an awsome coil that can cover ground like you would'nt believe. The coil is 18" long by about 3.5 inches wide. also you can purchase an array of other coil's from 4" on up !
Don't just take my word for it. LOOK IT UP in the "search" engines.
And last but defenitly not least, is TESORO's commitment to their warranties witch is "for life" ! Check it out or give Vince at Tesoro a call or e-mail him. Good people to deal with.
Take care and good hunting.

Ralph,

Man, I am running into you on all of the forums... At least I know what you look for in a machine is similar to my taste. Like I said, I am looking for something that is considered above average to excellent in iron, good seperating abilities and gets respectable depth. I have a few sites that it sounds like a machine gun going off when you run the machine wide open in disc. That is no kidding whatsoever! I am sure you've ran into and hunt those kinds of sites too. It will probably be a month or so before I buy my next machine. I just bought that T2 and intend to give it some serious swing time as I do all of my new machines. So far I like the T2 alot and am always looking for something 'different' than the machines I already own. Thanks for the input!

Your lovable UPS man.... :lmfao:

Like you i use them all and don't go by brand. I use what works for me. If you want a high performance "good in trash" combo look at the Tesoro Vaquero with the 5.75 coil. For me it is the number 1 Tesoro detector.

Andy,

Thanks for the info. As I said, I am not brand loyal. If people limit themselves to a particular manufacturer they're only improving my odds... :) I am looking at a couple of different machines and I have no experience with any Tesoro's. I've heard they were good in iron. I prefer a manual GB because of my ground which I see the Vaquero has.

Rusty,

I am not really looking for a machine to cover alot of ground. Kind of looking for a machine to pick through iron trash and that is good at picking out coins in amongst it... :) Thanks for the info though.

One of the best combinations that Tesoro has Andy hit the nail on the head....... very smooth machine, manual ground balance, deep, what else could ya want....Best to you, RichardnTn

I love my Vaquero, but for coin shooting I use a Conquistador uMax or Eldorado. To me I like the way they hit better on coins in trash.

scott

like I said, thats just the "cleansweep" coil.
you can also put the 5.75 or the 4 incher on her to weave in and out of trash.

Nothing wrong with the Eldorado. I had great finds with the Eldorado Umax and it is good in trash with the standard coil. The Vaquero just has more punch on lower conductive targets and runs quiter in trash. Sure doesn't hurt to have both.
