Tesoro manual ground balance

Let's say you detecting all day in a park, with a Tesoro detector that have a Manual Ground Balance, do you have to adjust the Ground Balance often during the day or once adjusted you don't have to change the Ground Balance for the rest of the day.....

Interesting question, with several levels of answers.

Quick answer: Depends on the ground and how deep you're searching. ;)

If the ground is moderately to heavily mineralized, and it changes a lot, then frequent GB will allow you to keep your max depth.
This can be more important to do with the higher frequency Tesoros.

If the ground is lightly mineralized, doesn't change much, and/or you're not trying to go deep, then it's just like any detector with a preset GB....not optimal, but it works 'OK'.
(Better really, since you've GB'd at least once to some of your soil.)

I personally like to frequently check the GB throughout the day.

If i am out all day detecting i can GB my detector/s many times during the day,a field or what ever site you detect the ground conditions can change even across say like a small field in size,my personal opinion is to keep the detector in optimum performance its best to do it many times,of course if you have a fixed GB then that cannot be done. Its a personal thing i guess but when searching on roman site the ground conditions can alter field by field it all depend on what activity has taken place on the site.

If you have a auto GB then that easy but its worth doing i think, just my personal opinion though.

thump is right. i sometimes have to make a very small adjustment from place to place. not even 1/4 turn either way. if im in one area, will check it once or twice. never had to re adjust in the same area. just if i moved to another location.it is such a quick and easy thing to do anyhow.

IMHO it's good to check it now and then, but usually it doesn't need adjusting.

I adjust the Vaquero often . A lot of red clay under the dirt here and the top of the hill can be a lot different than the base . Often I know it needs balancing because it will start making strange noises .

I sometimes use an original Bandido that has the 10-turn manual ground balance adjustment here in my mild soil and I can see slight ground balance shifts at times when I check it. Are these ground balance shifts enough for you to miss a target...MOST of the time no. In more mineralized ground the better it is to often check ground balance if possible. Manually ground balancing is an easy process and really shines when you need to switch out to a different type and/or size of coil!

It depends. If the ground matrix hasn't changed then no. If you have wandered into a different area it isn't difficult to check. In most cases if you haven't changed locations no.

Parks and sports areas can be the places where we need to re-check our ground balance. These areas have sometimes been levelled, involving the cutting away of mounds and/or the filling of hollows. If soil is brought in from another area to do this levelling, then the balance of a detector can be affected. Usually, these areas are covered by grass, so it might not be obvious at first glance when the soil is of different colours or textures in different places. Sometimes there may be areas where there is one soil type about 4 - 6 inches in depth, on top of a completely different soil type.

In such areas it is advisable to check ground balancing regularly, sometimes no change is required, sometimes it is.

It is in these areas that a machine with adjustable ground balance can perform better than a machine with fixed ground balance, hence one advantage of have manual ground balance.

Of course, there are some areas where you dont have to worry about changing ground balance at all (after first setting it correctly).
