Tesoro Lobo ST and Gold Bug2

Any one out there have the opportunity to compare a Gold bug 2 with a LST side by side on nugget finding? What did you see between them? Thanks.

Hi,

Current Fisher head engineer Dave Johnson had a hand in designing both units so they share a common background.

The Gold Bug 2 operates at 71 kHz and so will hit much tinier gold than the 17.5 kHz Lobo ST. I regularly find bits weighing under 1/10th grain (480 grain to the Troy ounce) with my Gold Bug 2. For this reason alone I prefer the Gold Bug 2.

However, the Lobo offers two features that might make it the better choice for some. The Gold Bug 2 is pure nugget detector. The Lobo offers a full range adjustable dicrimination control that means it can operate well as a general purpose detector for coin, jewelry, and relic detecting. If you wanted a detector for general purpose detecting and very strong for nugget detecting the Lobo is a good choice. It also offers automatic ground balancing which can be a good thing for those who have trouble learning how to tune a detector. But for get down serious nugget detecting I prefer the Gold Bug 2 manual ground balance.as it is less likely to tune out those tiniest bits of gold.

Both are good units - you won't go wrong either way. Both can be hip or chest mounted, which is a plus and getting to be a rare feature these days. In a nutshell I'd say if all you want is a nugget detector, go Gold Bug 2. If you want general purpose, go Lobo ST.
