I am purchasing a used eldorado off of e-bay and it is the older style with the control box mounted under the handle. My question is , will this be as up to date as far as using it in the field just with out the cosmetic changes. I also hunt with a whites xlt spectrum and a whites prizm 4. anyone thats used one of the originals I would appreciate any good or bad feedback on this unit

a really nice 'bark' when it sounded off due to a larger speaker than in the µMAX series.
The Eldorado (first version) was on the market before the ED-120 discrimination, which we saw come out with the 'original' Bandido and Silver Sabre II. Thus, it can be a little more prone to masking in densly trashed sites with iron junk.
On the good side, however, it does operate with a much cleaner audio rejection than the µMAX version of the Eldorado. Less click, chirp, tick, etc.
It has a 10-turn manual GB rather than the currently used 3¾-turn manual GB. Also, you can select either autotune or manual retune.
It is a bit heavier, but they were very good detectors. You don't see them surface very often because once folks latch onto a good old unit like that, they tend to just keep them and use them.
