I say 'experienced' because I have been a loyal Tesoro owner and user since mid-'83. I was a Tesoro Dealer since '83 until a coupled of years after the Eldorado was around so I have owned and used several. Naturally, I have put the Eldorado's, both the big-box original and the last offering in the µMAX (microMAX) housing to the test against other Tesoro's and personal favorites of mine from competitive detector makers. I used to enjoy using the Eldorado more when I was doing either Coin Hunting or Relic Hunting in more open sites with a minimal amount of trash, ferrous or non-ferrous, when I would use the silent-search Discriminate mode but run it wide-open with zero rejection. I took advantage of the ED-180 Disc. range of acceptance and got better depth and performance with it than most other Tesoro models using the same size search coils.
But there is no 'perfect' detector from any manufacturer so I look for weaknesses as well insofar as how a model might or might not appeal to me. I have kept 2-4 or more detectors in my personal detector outfit since '71/'72, so in that case I was comparing the Eldorado closely to my favorite Tesoro models and one or two I used at the time that were tough competition in the slow-motion/quick-response category. Two of my all-time-favorites, from Tesoro or from any detector maker, are the Bandido II µMAX and Silver Sabre µMAX.
Using the search coil that I preferred to use for hunting the trashier sites where I spend most of my time, and those are dense iron debris-filled Relic Hunting sites, I found the other Bandido models, and I have the original Bandido and Bandido II as well at the time, were all quieter and handled the nails and other ferrous junk better than the Eldorado. So, for ME, the strength was running in the Threshold-based All Metal mode or at zero rejection in the silent-search Discriminate mode, whereas the other Tesoro's I had and used handled some of the nasty iron environment a little quieter and better overall.
I keep one non-display detector and one visual TID unit in my vehicle at all times just in case I happen across a hit-it-now opportunity. That always-travel roll is shared by a Bandido II µMAX w/6" Concentric coil. That, and my Silver Sabre µMAX, are the Tesoro's that work best for me and my wants and needs, and they complement all the Target ID and Tone ID models I have from other detector makers.
In your case I would encourage you to try and find any source where you could handle any of the models you might be considering. The Eldorado, possibly, might be just the right detector for YOU? Only you can determine what you will be most comfortable with. But I do encourage you, or anyone who wants to be serious about this great sport, to think about owning and using at least two detectors that might complement each other in performance afield. You'll likely end up being more successful over time.
