Tesoro Deleon

I just don't think enough is said about this machine. I just picked a used Deleon up as a backup and competition hunt machine. I took it to my coin garden and hit 4 of my 5 targets (all dimes). They start at 2 inches and get progressively deeper. The 4th coin is around 9-10". The deleon ID'd the dime and correctly and gave a response that was strong enough to dig. I was pretty shocked. I figured 6" would be about as deep as I get with it.

It recovers amazingly fast and is super light. The Etrac is my primary machine, but I'm falling in love with this Tesoro!

More people should buy this machine!!!!

Ive been interested in this one too.
The Tesoro site tells very little about how it could be different but Ive noticed it runs on basically the same operating frequency as the silver umax.
This made me wonder if it was really a silver umax with a TID and larger coil.

I have one - if you browse through the threads you'll find a fair number of happy users. (I'm one) However, The D is a preset ground balance machine and you'll also find threads where folks have been disappointed because the ground they hunt is too mineralized for good results with the preset gb. The parks, fair grounds etc. that I coin shoot with the D have mild ground and I've recovered many good finds using it. I've found that most of the time I get plenty of sensitivity and depth with out having to run full bore. Setting the sensitivity (on mine, anyway) around 7 or 8 gives me good depth and good performance. The accuracy of the display is on par with several other detectors I've had experience with, although I won't vouch for the depth reading as I seldom pay any attention to that. If it shows a coin, I'm going to dig, regardless.

I've had mine for about 4 years. I've learned alot!! But I still would not consider myself proficient. I know there's alot to learn. Every time I get frustrated I blame it on my lack of experience. Not on the machine. If I had access to every high end unit, maybe I could recommend a better detector, but for me the Deleon is the best machine out there. And if you take the time to learn the idiosyncrasies you'll be glad you went Tesoro. Do I still dig alot of junk? OH YEAH......! Is it worth it, definitely!! Ten years from now, I'll be able to tell not only what denomination, but what century that coin came from.

I have had the Deleon for several years now and have really enjoyed it. I have found everything from gold rings to state tax tokens with the Deleon. It doesn't get the attention some of the other Tesoros do....but it is a fine detector. I live in an area that has some "mineralization" issues with the soil, yet I have still done well with the preset GB on the Deleon. I am really close to getting a Vaquero now for the added versatility (manual GB). But I will keep my Deleon!

Had one and it was great on relics too.

I just tried out my 5" coil today and got the same depth as my 9x8" in my test garden. I was very pleased to see I didn't have a loss of depth with the smaller coil.

I've been impressed by the depth of the smaller coil. You'll want to slow down your swing when hunting in parks etc. as it is easy to overswing the target forcing you to have to backup to find it a second time. Works better in heavy trash to slow down as well.

Only been using mine about a year now,LOVE IT. They say when you get three bars on the graph that it is trash, i found on the nickle bar, if the bars on each side show and the nickle bar is higher it is a nickle with trash next to it. Slowed my swing speed down and try to overlap found dimes and quaters at 8 ins no bull. I nicknamed mine CUJO it kills on silver.

Well, on my first full day out with the Deleon my headphone jack stopped working. Anyone ever had trouble with the jack before?

Just a suggestion about mineralization. If you are having troubles with the preset gb then send the unit to Tesoro with some soil from your area and they will tune it to the soil .

The Deleon is a fine unit! I ran one for about a year. It was great in parks and schools. Very accurate in its read out. My only gripe was the over load you would get now and then. I would buy another in a heartbeat, Beale.

What kind of tone does the Deleon have? It sounds like I might like to give it a try. I don't really need a detector with a manual ground balance. The ground that I hunt doesn't have a lot of minerals in it. I had my "high tone" Vaquero changed to a "low tone", because the high tone made my ears ring. I'm either trading or selling my Bandido II uMax, because its "high tone" makes my ears ring as well and it can't be changed.
