Tesoro DeLeon

Hi all, I am in the market for a new detector and I am trying to decide between a Tesoro DeLeon or Garrett AT Pro. Here in Aussie they are both around the same price. What I would like to know is if the Deleon would be good on dry sand beaches and also shallow water hunting? Would the preset ground balance on the DeLeon be OK on wet sand? I have used Tesoros in the past and have found them to be really good machines. The AT Pro seems to have a falsing problem which I believe is in the process of being cured, but it has a lot more features than the Tesoro. I just do not want to waste my hard earned bucks!!! Any replies would be appreciated.
Cheers,

Not having a prayer what your conditions are like both companies make good units perhaps there is a forum that just deals with your neck of the woods..

Seems like the DeLeon is tried and true and the AT pro is the new kid on the block and getting the bugs worked out if that will help in your decision...

Do not get the Deleon if you have a high mineral content in ground,!:E hot rocks etc or EMI problems i found out the hard way. i had a AT Pro that had no problems,I didn't keep it because scrren was to small to read with my eyes.Between the two i would go with AT Pro it will work in all soil conditions.

I have a DeLeon and it works very well IN MY SOIL which is relatively mild in most locations. However, if you have the least bit of question concerning mineralization, you definitely need to stick with a detector that either has manual ground balance or true auto tracking IMHO.

this is very true, my deleon so far is workin real good with SEF coil found 2 coins in the yard i had'nt before luckily they were shallow to dig em

AT Pro equals DEEPER,especially larger GOLD objects, than the Tesoro Deleone, hence the term "Pro"!!
The AT Pro has manual GROUND BALANCE,(Deleone does not!),therefore AT Pro goes DEEPER!

Also, with its higher 15 khz. frequency, the AT Pro is naturally DEEPER on *most**GOLD*!
The AT Pro also goes deeper than the Deleone on *most* gold targets because of it's larger DD coil!

**However, the AT Pro depth can also be comprimised on some targets, when compared to the Deleone!***

But Why???

Because the Deleone has a lower 10 khz. frequency,(vs. the AT Pro higher 15 khz. frequency). The Deleone will penetrate the ground naturally DEEPER,because of it's LOWER FREQUENCY,(all other things considered!)..

And because of the Deleone's *lower frequency*,AND it's *smaller coil*,the Tesoro Deleone will be HOTTER on older silver coins, and *smaller gold* objects respectively,(all other things considered!)

*Therefore,*smaller gold* should be a *toss up* between the Deleone's *smaller coil*, and the AT PRO higher frequency!*

AGAIN though, the AT Pro higher 15 khz. frequency DEFINATELY makes it more sensitive to *most* gold items, especially LARGE GOLD,than the Deleone!

Also, the AT Pro larger DD coil can also "see" better in mineralized ground, and for that matter,ANY GROUND,
(more separation per inch of depth), therefore beeping on "masked" targets more accurately,(hard to believe, but better trash separation with larger coil!) HOWEVER,AT Pro not quite as easy to pinpoint with larger DD coil, compared to the smaller cocentric coil on the Deleone! Therefore, a pinpointer should be used with the AT Pro,adding even MORE to the cost and weight of the AT Pro! However,if a smaller coil is added to the AT Pro, then the AT Pro wins hands down on small AND large gold performance..But up front, the Deleone STILL puts up a fight for *smaller gold*,and deep silver items!

A used Deleone can be had for MUCH less money than the new Garrett AT Pro.. (It's like trying to compare a Compadre to Tejon; the Compadre **DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR**,STILL PUTS UP A FIGHT AGAINST THE TEJON FOR SMALL GOLD!!! NO WAY AROUND IT! Lol!

The new surge of manufacturers building higher kilohertz machines, are a result of the public wanting to find gold objects, hence Garrett creating the AT Pro..

In life, PHYSICS rule, and there is no such thing as a free lunch..It all depends on what type of hunting you wish to do..
If your rich, and want to get MAX. DEPTH ON LARGER GOLD ITEMS,then try the new Garrett AT Pro..

If your poor, and want to still do a great job at finding smaller silver and gold items, for the price and ergonomics, the Tesoro Deleone is still hard to beat!
