i found a nice clean used deleon for a good price and am thinking about buying it. i'd like to hear any pro's or cons on this detector before i buy it. most of what i have read about the deleon is positive, but have read a few posts that were negative. i'm thinking soil conditions could be the problem in the negative reviews. my ground here in illinois is mild so i don't think it would be a problem for me, and i own a silver
I've never owned one, but I hope to someday. It seems like the Deleon is a very underrated detector. As long as your ground isn't heavily mineralized, you should get great performance out of the Deleon. Since the Silver is working for you, the Deleon will too. The target ID is very accurate, from what I've read. Like most Tesoros, it isn't the deepest machine on the market, but it should get up to 8" in good conditions. Add another inch or two if you get the larger coil.
I've read a lot of positive things about the detector as well and owners seem very happy with it. I think you made a good choice with the Deleon
mojave, i have always wanted to try a deleon myself. tesoro detectors aren't the deepest machines out there but they sure seem to find their share of good targets. in my area it seems the coins don't sink all that deep. i have found a few that were very deep but 90% of them are around 6 inches so i think the deleon would be a capable coin hunter for me.
besides, if i wanna dig to china for those deep coins i have the fisher cz to get those with. i just want a good light weight id machine that isn't complicated to use and will get the job done and i think the deleon is the perfect machine for the job............roger

I think you are right, the Deleon seems like a perfect match. Don't worry too much about some of the negative reviews... all detectors have good and bad reviews.
Another thing about the Deleon is the 10khz frequency... that's a great frequency for silver coins and jewelry.
I just bought a DeLeon I really like it. With the grapg and the ID you get very good idea of what you are looking at. It is a very underrar=ted detector in my eyes, Beale.
I generally hunt mild to moderate ground and I've been very happy with my DeLeon. You'll find that you don't need to turn the sensitivity up to max to get good depth and performance. I did get some ground chatter when I tried the 10X12, but I prefer the smaller coils, any way. Works very well with the 7" concentric.

I've had the DeLeon for a few weeks now. I had some issues when I first purchased the D, so I sent it to Tesoro. They calibrated the D up with the 5.75 coil and as close as they could to the standard coil, made some adjustments, and sent it back. The D is now a BEAST! I never have to go past seven or eight on the sensitivity and it just rocks right along quiet and deep. The graph is very accurate, but is occasionally fooled by a twist style cap, like most all detectors. On surface finds or coins close to the surface, the D will tell you to lift the coil and then it will give you an accurate reading.
So far I've got about 16 hours of "swing time" on the D and I love it. It's actually very deep with the 5.75 and does an excellent job on separation. As usual, lightweight and well built. I've mostly hit old ghost towns with a lot of iron to Descrim out and the D has done excellent. I took the kids to the park this last weekend and took the D along. Came back with all kinds of coins, a couple of pendants, and a thin gold necklace. Even my 10 year old daughter swung it for a while and was learning the graph and she knew when she was signaling on a park bench or fence, as opposed to a target.
So far, a great machine and I already see a long relationship! Lightweight, deep for a 5.75, accurate graph, VERY easy to use, very good Descrim and target separation, Lifetime Warranty, excellent build quality, AND, it's a Tesoro!!! I really think you'll like it!
You guys are right about the sensitivity...I seldom have mine past 5 or 6, and for parks 3 or 4 is ample, gets me down to 4 to 5 inches on most coins. I dont like digging much deeper than that in parks and other pristine public places. ohp, I have found with those bottle caps, careful repeated passes with the coil usually show an inconsistency betwwen the numbers and the graph...then you know it is a bottle cap. I've found the DeLeon to be fantastic on small silver. I think it is overlooked and underrated in both sensitivity and power departments. JMHO
well, you guys told me exactly what i thought i would hear about the deleon so i'm buying it. now comes the hard part.....waiting on it to get here!!! i'm anxious to get out with the deleon and digging some targets. is there a chart or something i could print out that kinda gives me some id numbers on different targets ? thanks for your comments guys......

I see you have plenty of responses so I guess this isn't needed.
I had the DeLeon for one summer back in 06 I think. I really liked it a lot but I'm constantly trying new machines so I sold it. I've always been sorry I let it go. It was only about 5 months old and it went on ebay post paid for like $275.
I posted it Buy-It-Now because I had a super deal lined up on another brand. The person in Canada who got it, loved it.
The DeLeon is very much like all the other Tesoro machines with the addition of the TID. The depth is very close to the Cortes and the secret to the meter is learning target patterns. These are groups of numbers that register over certain types of targets.
I found a gold charm bracelet (with charms) in a pocket of square nails with my DeLeon. I had detected the spot before with other machines but they nulled out. The DeLeon jumped back and forth from Iron to Nickel range as I recall (it's been years).
Anyway, it was so suspicious I decided to dig. I was sure surprised when that big hunk of gold was shining in the sun!
i'm sure i will like the deleon. i love my silver umax and would be happy if it was the only machine i had. i kinda see the deleon as a silver umax with tid, and i'm sure it will go a bit deeper than the silver. does anyone have a id chart where targets fall on the deleon meter? like a small gold ring hits at 41 etc? this would be helpful, but i can make one myself to familiarize myself to what the id is telling the probable target is. i read a couple places where the deleon chatters with the 12x10 coil....is this a problem i will have with it or just mineralized ground causing this? thanks for all you answers to my questions.....................roger
