Tesoro Deleon - Lift Coil ID Question

I picked up a used Deleon and I'm not sure if it is out of tune.

Conducting Air tests with Disc from Min - iron (doesn't matter), Sens 1 - 10 (doesn't matter) I get good solid tones and ID until I get within 2" of the coil (stock, 5.75. 4 doesn't matter).
- Zinc penny, nickel, Gold ring - From approx 2" to the coil I get lift coil displayed and broken chatter
- Copper Penny, Dime, Quarter - From approx 2" to the coil I get lift coil displayed but the tones are nice and solid.

I'm not sure if this is correct but as a solid tone searcher I can see how it would be easy to assume a nickel and gold ring near the surface are trash (since many times discriminated targets are broken or clipped tones) unless you looked at the screen to see "lift coil" displayed.

I'd sure like to talk to another Deleon user to see if my unit is good or needs adjustment. I plan to call Tesoro tomorrow and see what they have to say.

** Since posting this I read the online manual and read that 4-8" is optimal for display indications otherwise I may get lift coil display but is the broken chatter close to the coil normal? **

FYI for other DeLeon users or those thinking about the machine.

I spoke with Nathan at Tesoro and he said that this is normal ops. Has something to do with the combination of the metals and oversaturation of the ID process when close that makes those three tested items break up unless you raise the coil a bit to get the proper ID.

sounds like the omega 8000 no id and crappy overload sound on surface targets was a deal breaker for me , used to F19 and the no screen Tesoro's smooth and nice ID

but heaps of people live with it and some use it too advantage so happy hunting sure it will do you well :clapping:

My wife has the Deleon, I've put about 20 to 30 hours in on it and here is my take on it. I really like that it identifies the higher conductive coins with a 95 VDI number, my wife does well on coins with it and she comes up with a lot of quarters. It does overload on surface nickels but once they are buried and in the ground a couple of inches they come in great. I once found a nickel on edge at about 4 inches and was astonished that it gave a good solid tone and a VDI number in the nickel range, I believe it was in the low 20's. My wife did not care for the stock 9X8 coil and I put the 5.75 concentric coil on it for her, this thing rocks in the trash now and is lighter in weight and that was a big plus for her.

The DeLeon does overload on surface targets, especially larger ones. I've use several other brands that did the same and I don't find it a problem as long as the user is aware of this feature.

The DeLeon, with 8 x 1.5v batteries, is a very powerful machine, so, anything on the surface will get a loud audio, and usually "lift" arrows. Once you get used to it, as BB says, it is fine. Hombre is absolutely right, in my experience, with coins in the ground...for the quite deep coins (I refer to 8" + as quite deep) you might only get an occasional "number signal" that matches the target, but it is usually worth digging at that depth (other VID machines that I have do the same thing). I also agree with Hombre's wife, in that the 5.75" coil is great on the DeLeon...makes it lighter and is great amongst the trash (which seems to be ever abundant in many areas). Take your time with it, get to know it and it will reward you. HH
