Tesoro Cutlass II uMax

I'm pretty sure that the year 2000 was the last year for the Cutlass II. I recall reading an article by a guy here in Aust. and what he wrote was quite impressive, with the Cutlass II performing very well inland and at saltwater beaches. I'm not sure if he took it onto the wet sand or in the water, but I recall he got very good depth in dry sand. If it's working ok then it would be great detector. HH Sapper.

DON'T want it, shoot me an e-mail. :)

PS: In the past few years I have checked the local Craig's place and bought a new-in-the-box Silver

Just registered with findmail today. Excited ! Recently acquired a mint cutlass II umax. Too frozen out to use it now. Welcome any and all input about this machine, pro or con.

put it in disc mode (switch) set the disc as low as you can deal with at any given time , put the sens just below annoying and start digging you will catch on pretty quick nice easy to use detector that find-s stuff.

I'm impressed with your rapid reply, AJ. You're my "maiden" response! Will always cherish: Good Ol' AJ! Don"t find a heck of a lot about the cutlass II umax except that it was built around 1998 to 2000. How might it compare to the silver umax? Regards.

Still waiting for gobs of feedback on the illustrious cutlass II umax. Craving some historical, hands-on practical experiences, observations, finds, discoveries etc. Duck

Duck, I wish I had something exciting to say about mine, but other than air-testing, I haven't even had a chance to try it yet. I picked this one up recently, also in super-clean condition. Had been reading that it was basically the same Tesoro as the "Silver μMAX", but with controls switched around.

I have used my earlier Cutlass μMAX, but it's a bit different than the II (it's not very deep, but works well in tot-lots).

Hey, Dirty Old Digger, nice to hear from you. Am totally green at this findmail forum stuff. What does "ADD MY SIGNATURE TO THIS MESSAGE" mean? Your feedback on the cutlass II umax is helpful. Noticed that it does look like silver umax except for the numeric DISC markings and reversed knob positioning. Need to do some air testing myself. Maybe we can compare. Keep in touch. Note: picked up your reply when 2 minutes old! Regards, Duck Furthermore, it would be nifty to discover whether this machine owns up to the silver umax.

By having the "add signature" turned on, you can add something silly (or whatever) to all of your posts.
In my case, "Dirty Old Digger".

On the Cutlass II μMAX, I'd expect to get depth comparable to the coil diameter you have on it, + or - an inch, in mild soil. I suspect that your lowest discrimination setting will have it rececting small iron (nails and such), and even in the "all-metal" setting, it may still reject small iron. Not sure; need to do some playing with mine. I'm pretty certain that The Cutlass line were all what Tesoro labeled as ED-120, making them fairly quiet in iron. I'll give mine a proper testing when I can make it down the hill to some parks. It's still a bit snowy where I am, though it is melting. Maybe I can do some detecting soon..

:bouncy:

Thanks, Dirty Old Digger. Now I've got the incentive to start messing around with my cutlass umax & share some observations before our snow melts. Going to try a smiley. Let me know if it appears on this reply. Duck:sadwalk:

I have a Cutlass II µMax its my one and only Tesoro I use now it excels as a all round parks and tot lot machine finds all that glitters too. I use it mainly with the older 7" Tesoro coil in tot lots, and parks! . Does quite well if you can pare it up with the Troy 5 pin coils ( X2 ONLY COILS ONLY) the Super 7 " or in my case Super 9" . It is surprisingly a nickel hog only detector that has come close to loving nickels was the Troy Shadow X2 in this department. It also will find the most ridiculous small pieces of metal when the right conductivity I'm talking BB size etc. My settings that I don.t deviate from are Sens. 6 or 7 Disc, is 4 with these settings I find everything from A to Z in the ground, I pretty much now know when I have pull tab, bottle cap etc. by the louder sharp sound as oppose to a gentler sound on coins and so forth. If you want a beep and dig machine that's a all round light machine the Cutlass II µMax is ***** IMHO Coils shown are Tesoro older 7" concentric, Tesoro 8" Brown Donut Concentric and the Troy Shadow Super 9 " coil and of course the star of show Tesoro Cutlass II µMax small box version

Very interesting, attackcat.

Are you saying the 7" and 9" concentric shadow x5 coils won't work? Regards. Duck:stars:
