Tesoro Cult

There seems to be a cult like following for Tesoro that you don't really see for other manufacturers. I started out with a Compadre which is awesome. Then I betrayed the cult and got a Minelab. I fell like I did something wrong, the Minelab seems to be a good detector. It finds stuff, some surprisingly small, is fairly light ( not Tesoro light) and has all these bells an whistles, but for some reason I don't really trust it yet. When my Compadre beeped I knew whether to dig or not. I cant seem to decide with the Minelab, and have found myself treating it like a Tesoro. When it beeps anything but iron, and sometimes even when it does, I dig. I am still digging less, both trash and treasure. I have found very little jewelry with the Minelab, I didn't find much with the Compadre but it seemed like I found more than I do now. I think I am going to take my Compadre for a walk to re-affirm my faith.

Let me know how it goes for you. I started out with a minelab xterra and have had good success with it. But then I started reading about tesoros and all of a sudden,I am convinced that my minelab is lying to me. So I did everything now and I am finding lots of relics I used to pass over, but a lot more trash...I get my Vaquero in a few weeks- let's see if it lives up to the hype...

They are tools.

Like firearms, use the right one for the job, each one I own seems to something better then the other ;)

Owning a Tesoro and finding good treasure In a day where everyone else wants the latest computerized technology is like hitting home runs with a wooden bat.

A Tesoro is high tech simplicity backed by the best support and warranty in the industry.

Cult????

One Tesoro detector for each day of the week is plenty for a normal person.

Anymore than that is being excessive, but excessive is OK.

My best detector ever was a Garrett Groundhog. I was never satisfied with any of the other Garretts. Really hated the Garrett 1500. I got started with Tesoro by taking a trade of a 14' boat for a Golden Saber. I still have the Golden Saber. I later bought a Golden Umax and had it upgraded to the new tones. Loved it until the upgrade. Sold the Golden UMAX and bought an out dated Cortez. I have found more with my out dated Cortez than I have with any other Detector. Why do people say this Detector is out dated. I intentionally had to turn down the depth in this hard ground.

My point is don't screw around with something that is working. All the touch pads and irritating Beeps just cause trouble.

Same machine for 9 years lots of goodies over 100 rings couple thousand in clad coins lots of deep silver coins, never tried anything else why mess with perfection? DeLeon kicks butt

If you want simple detecting at it's best.Join the Tesoro "CULT"..

We can compare features or lack of, but even the most bell and whistle laden detectors ultimately do just one thing. Signal that there's metal under the coil. Granted the TIDs and other features can be useful, but in the end it's still a machine's best guess and the experience and skill of the operator is what counts in the end. Assuming similar depth etc. a basic beep and dig detector will get the job done just fine IMHO.

I seemed to do better with a simple machine maybe feeling like a under dog compared to the other company's makes me hunt harder and being one with the machine, I have mentioned before being a Tesoro red leg a loyalist we are the few the proud! HH tigerhank

I haven't had my Vaquero a year yet and thought about getting another unit with tid, but I am on the fence whether I should or not. The more I hunt the Vaq the more I learn. Haven't done much hunting recently, except on the beach, because of heat and really hard ground here. So I might wait til fall and maybe even get he 5.75 coil first before making a decision.

Hi Machineman. no doubt you are suffering from some lasting effects of having a "Well Duh" moment , and are slowly realizing the symptoms of your problem is greatly relieved with small, frequent but potent doses of Compadre. Very likely though your problem won't be cured without a 'larger than" Compadre dose of Tesoro. Happy Fever! Charlie

I have taken a drink of the tea ! I have been using a MD since 1970 and have used many detectors. I currently have a Garrett Groundhog, an oldie but a goodie and a Minelab Explorer. They all find stuff but my favorite is my new Tesoro Sand Shark! It is what a detector should be, simple and effective. I am going to get a second Tesoro for my land hunting. Great products!

Tesoro has been producing outstanding detectors for decades. They seem to fly under the radar because of all the high-end, high dollar, highly marketed detectors that come with fancy displays and God knows an over-load of information. I'm mean seriously, how much data do you need to find a quarter? As I found out first hand, and as all Tesoro users know, the simple fact is, spending more does not translate into finding more. Tesoro gets it, and Tesoro users get it. It's so simple, yet so incomprehensible by so many. It

Tesoro and Minelab both probably have the strongest followings in the industry.

The key to either one is being satsified with how it performs for you.

My first was a Garrett Groundhog VLF-TR. No meter . I learned how to reverse discriminate with it and dug up some deep coins that way. Then i purchased a whites eagle II . I was clueless, never did figure it out. I now have the Vaq. and am very satisfied. I constantly toy with the dials on this unit and never feel overwhelmed. The Eagle made me feel like an idiot.

Put fresh batteries in my new (to me) Tiger Shark this evening & headed down to the beach for a maiden voyage. Not sure of this machine yet, it kept falsing in the water. Had to hunt in disc. as soon as it got near water. In the wet & dry sand, I used it like my Excal, hunting in pinpoint. I'll have to figure out some adjustments to it, doesn't seem to detect very deep. Tested it in the yard before i left, & I wasn't picking up coins any farther away than 6-7".
Still, in 3 hrs I managed 13 pennies, 3 dimes, 3 nickels, 2 quarters, 3 beer tops & 2 pulltabs, so it did find targets.

Tesoro users discovered these fallacies:
1) Depth is everything.
2) ID can help increase your finds.
3) Heavy machines are a sign of more electronics
4) The more batteries you have, the more power.
5) Tesoros are toys
6) Tesoros have old technology and can't find as much as new technology.

I have come to understand that TIDs just tell you not to dig. They add more doubt into the equation.

machine man, that's the best way I've ever seen that concept expressed. Good on ya!
