Tesoro Cortes

Just got a Cortes,I want to like it but it wont let me cos it wont let me search in disc mode without chirping all the time,OK its on the beach {high up and dry sand} but my friend's got a Deleon and it don't chirp any.

Tried using it with sensitivity at zero and disc almost the same but it just wont behave itself like the Deleon.

Would appreciate any help chaps as this is my first attempt at treasure hunting and I love the hobby to death already.

It sounds like you do not have it ground balanced right. Check out your manual for the GB procedure.

had to cover up a double post with something else

I had that same problem and it took me awhile to figure out what was going on. If you raise the disc up to about the F in FOIL that will kill most, if not all, of the false chirps.

It is more sensitive than the standard uMax series of detectors and the micro trash audio will give you a headache after a few hours. You need to raise the disc up high enough to get rid of the micro trash and ground signals.

Hope that helps,

Ta Jim,

I'll try again with the G\B, I thought that the machine was factory preset for G\B in disc mode?

Ta Mike,

Heading out again tomorrow weather permitting, will try that setting and thanks again for your help. I was afraid that the Cortes was faulty, good to know it's just my lack of experience with it that's the problem.

a too-negative Ground Balance that is factory preset in the Disc. mode.

A second issue, if hunting a wet, salty beach, is a need to increase the Discriminate level just to the point where you reject the wet salts, which are low-conductive.

You're welcome to E-mail me directly if you have any questions.

Ta Monte,

"a too-negative Ground Balance that is factory preset in the Disc. mode."

If this turns out to be the case Monte is there anything I can do about it? Thanks for the info.

that mean there is an internal pot that can be adjusted to change the factory preset? And will that pot if there is one play havoc with the detectors other functions in All metal mode, once adjusted?
We know there is always someone who will open up a detector with blind eyes, start adjusting pots and screw up all the workings. Then have to send the unit back to Tesoro for fixing. Any info would cure the desire to peek inside, maybe? LOL

My first suggestion to you, and anyone else, is DO NOT OPEN AND TINKER WITH YOUR CORT
