Tesoro Cortes

Lately I have been hunting with a Tesoro Cortes. I must be the only one hunting with a Cortes. I never see any post what someone found with a Cortes or anything about it. I am really impressed with the Cortes. I use the 5 3/4" coil.Been detecting 35 years. Owned about forty or so detectors. I own several now. Just wondering.....Jack

Jack, I had a Cortes last summer and it was a nice detector, but what I didn't like was the small meter and lack of manual ground balance. There are several Cortes users on the forum and I'm sure they will chime in....HH

I've used both and done pretty well with them. The small screen on the Cortez is a bit hard to read, but the detector worked well.

I used one for awhile end of last summer and now my uncle owns it. I did not care for the lack of ground balance in the discriminate mode, the screen was too small and I have fairly young, good eyes, the depth reading was never ever correct for me, it used too many batteries and after using machines that had full time tones the single beep in heavy trash did not do it for me. On the plus side, it was always dependable and it was a Tesoro!

I used a Cortes for a full season and It got to where I could tell by the sound and the swing speed if I had a target worth digging most all of the time. The pinpointing is good also with the stock coil. The meter readout I paid little or no attention to it. I found more silver jewelry with it of various types although I did not find hardly any silver coins I think there are many less to be found nowadays than in the past to be fair. The Cortes is not a battery hog at all.In fact they last very long time when using headphones. If you wanna know what a battery hog is try the Safari out I get around two or three hunts maybe on a set if lucky, I could go for 2 weeks usually with the Cortes. Am waiting for a new coil cover so I can put the Cortes back in use again at the moment. CARM

For 4 years my Cortes was my main detedtor. Was very good to me but sold it because it had only one tone in regular disc mode. The depth readout was great, it was always on, nice feature. I still have the Golden, I love the 4 tones even tho I rarely use the Golden. Now my main detector has 4 tones and a large meter, for me its better than the Cortes.
