Tesoro Cortes users...?

Hey folks, I'm relatively new to metal detecting, and relatively new to using Tesoro. Bought a Tejon about a month ago and that got me interested in other models... Now I have three Tesoros in my house, and another (used one) on the way.

I have a couple questions for those of you who use a Cortes...

Are they really bad in mineralized soil or can they do OK with the preset GB in disc. mode?
Has anyone attempted to modify their Cortes to work better in badly mineralized soil, like adding GB in disc and SUM modes?

Thanks. ^_^

I just want a little meter on my Vaquero where the speaker is. Sorry no experience with the Cortes, but your post reminded me.

Hey,
That Cortes will I.D. in all metal if I remember right. So just ground balance and off you go.
Check that ground every balance every so often as ground changes here and there. Dig
those 95's but you'll dig some higher conductive trash but let your ears and eyes be the
discriminator. With a ground balance you have a wider choice of coils. Good Luck!!!

The SUM mode is the Pinpoint feature(that what i use it for ) --gives you a good final adverage of the target with 7 tone ID --- Iron smear on Bottlecaps --most junk items . Tesoro personell will tell you the Cortes and Deleon is for light mineralization and it came out in Dec 2001-depth of about 7" on a dime in clean ground ---the only upgrades that have came out in the 15 years is with a less glare Matte meter lens and the slow down of the All Metal Retune -- i remember phoning Tesoro back in around 2003 --ask why no ground balance carry over to the Disc mode -- Rusty said they wanted the keep the targeti ID accurate and stable (with the 8 x 9 ) with the coil it came with . i got one used a few weeks back it didnt work properly sent it off to Tesoro tune up and wiring replaced and matched to the Troy shadow 7" coil --- great machine in trash

Thanks everyone!
I had bought a used Cortes off eBay but it had some issues. I'm sure the Tesoro could have fixed it up nicely again, but I sent it back to the seller. I'll look for another Cortes that is working properly and was taken care of. Meanwhile, my other Tesoros are working great! ^_^

I've used my Cortes mostly on lawns, sport fields etc. In my area these are not heavily mineralized and the Cortes performs well. As mentioned above one can run in ground balanced all metal if necessary or if the mineraliztion isn't too bad one can kick up the disc a bit and /or cut back on the sensitivity. I have several detectors with manual ground to use if forced to, but haven't had to very often.
