Tesoro Control Knobs --- What size Allen Wrench?

Tesoro Control Knobs --- What size Allen Wrench?

Hello fellow dirt fisherman,

I am thinking to remove just the Knobs, not the retaining nuts on each stem on the face of my B2 uMax and slipping some 6mil or so vinyl punched over the stems, and reattaching the Knobs as a way of creating a more streamlined waterproofing for the Oregon Spring weather.

I have tried wrapping up the control housing in bread sacks, vegetable plastic sacks, you name it; I have tried to find a way to protect my machine from the rain and still be able to easily make adjustments and ground balancing and retuning, and flipping to all metal mode, but all of these solutions do not work very well.

Yes, I have the Tesoro designed dust cover and it is just plain in the way and not very workable at all, unless your fingers are very long and slender. Mine are not.

So, if anyone could please clue me in on the size needed to remove the allen set screws from my B2 uMax control housing, I will try yet another way to rain proof my machine.

Thanks,

nwdetectorist

Hi nwdetectorist, I don't know what size you need but if you get one them allen wreches that has multiple ones you will find one that fits. Hard to explain but it is a set that has about 10 different sizes that you can flip out one at a time. You can buy them anywhere and are very inexpensive. P.S. How do you like the Bandito, I have one on its way to me & should be here this Thursday. It is a Bandito II uMax. Steve.

Here is what I was talking about. Just make sure you get the sae (standard) size not the metric size set. Steve.

Thanks Steve,

You will like the Bandido II uMax.
I dig up a lot of pull tabs and bottle caps, but find about a ring a week, sometimes more when I am in the right park.
I am certain that a lot more rings are on my way this spring.

Just this last Saturday, I found a nice Celtic knot sterling silver ring.
I also dug up 17 nickels in just under 3 hours and was on a roll for another gold ring, just did not walk over that spot.

Hey Nwdetectorist,
I just tried my allen wrench set and found the 1.5 MM fits the set screw.
I tried my standard set and found that one was too large and the next size was too small.
The 1.5 MM seems to fit perfectly on the two tesoro detectors I have and tried it on.
Hope this helps,
Felix

Sorry nwdetectorist to tell you to get the standard set and not the metric set. I could of swore that I have a regular set and have removed/adjusted many a Tesoro detector dials. I know that you probably already know this but just a reminder, make sure that you turn the dial/dials all the way clockwise or all the way counterclockwise before you take them off the shaft. That way you can put the dial/dials back on exactly where they were. Steve.

Thanks

I did not think of that, but was going to mark the stems with a magic marker.
But your idea of turning the adjustments to their stops makes good sense also.
