Tesoro Conquistador Update

Hi folks, I received my Conquistador (non uMax) the other day, we had a couple of "warm enough" days so I went to a school ground and gave it a test run. It seemed a little "noisey" compared to the other Tesoro's I have owned. Even seemed to beep by just swinging the coil when there was nothing under the coil. It wasn't hard to pick out the louder hits & I got my usual clad (at pretty good depths) and 3 pieces of small jewelry. I got thinking about the "noisey" of the Conquistador and thinking it should be smoother than it was, I threw her in all metal set the threshold to a slight hum (can get a nice steady hum)and sure enough the ground balance setting either at the factory or by the previous owner was set way too negative for my ground. I adjusted it to a very slight positive setting and now my Conquistador is as calm as a kitten with no beeping/noise unless there is a target under the coil. There isn't alot of info out there on te Conquistador but let me tell you that it is a very good machine as all Tesoro's are. It hits very hard on the lower conductive items and also coins. I had it for sale but now I am keeping it. Thanks & Happy New Year! Steve.

Good luck with tha Conquistadore.

Sounds like you got your MD twiked.

I ground balanced my Silver Sabre uMax

in my yard. Tha soil in my yard is consistant, and

represents tha soil in tha general areas I usually

hunt.

I was supprised at how easy it was.

But I caution people from doing it if they are not

familure with some basic electronic knowledge.

There are several mistakes a novice could make

while trying to make tha adjustment.

But it sure is nice to have tha machine adjusted

to tha soil.

HH,

Tabdog

And if you are a novice and don't want to risk voiding the warranty you can send it in to Tesoro with a big bag of dirt and they'll do it for you.

They did it for me with my Deleon. They did it gratis. And I haven't had a problem anywhere I've run it since.

It's nice to have a company like Tesoro where you can take great customer service for granted.

Yeah I have had a few of them good ole Tesoro's in my day. Nice of marcomo to post about Tesoro setting the g.b. if a person doesn't feel comfortable opening up the control box. Thanks for the vote of confidence TabDog. Steve.

I don't know much about the Conquistador, but I came very close to nabbing one a couple weeks ago - was in excellent condition and at a killer price.
Currently have 5 Tesoro's and a few other machines - I know - I cut back last year. But if I add another machine to the family this year, which I'm having a difficult time figuring, I just don't know what to add - and if I should let any go I currently have. Some time ago when I cut myself down below a dozen machines, I almost felt like I robbed myself. So the Conquistador was really twisting my gears - but so did some of the other posted machines such as all the Golden talk lately.
My wife says I really need help, she doesn't say I go detecting, she calls it poking holes:blink: so I say to her that I'm the one that needs help?:poke:
Anyway, I'm not sure what stopped me, but normally I probably would have snagged that Conquistador without second thought.

Take the wife with you tab-nabit, my wife has detected with me for the last 25 years and loves it as much as I do. I would love to have a herd of Tesoro's but can only afford one at a time. As for the Golden I had one and couldn't take the multi- tones. It not just the Golden I can't take multi-tones on any detector no matter the brand or model. I guess I just gotten used to the sweet sounding single tone Tesoro's. Steve.

I know tha fealin Steve.

I got a Euro Sabre. It can be set to have two tones.

Funny thing is, I never use that part of tha "Iron ID" feature.

I use tha swtich to go between " Iron Blank" and "Off".

"Off" makes tha Euro just like tha Eldorado uMax.

That seems to tell me more than tha two tones togather.

That way I get a crackel instead of a glerber bleaber kind a stuff.

How did we git stuck on single tones anyway.

What is this, some kind of Tesoro curse or somethin??? lol...just kiddin.

It is habit formin though,

Tabdog

Tab-nabit, you'd fit right in around here. I've got 5 Tesoros and a couple of others, too. I guess we both belong to the school of "if one is worth having, two (or more) is better". My wife uses one from time to time, but I get the blame for most of them. Too much winter for detecting here, but I'm ready when the weather breaks.
