I just purchased a used compadre for my grandson it has a 1/4" steel bolt connecting the coil to lower rod is this correct.
Thank's Joe

I've got detectors with both and either work just fine.

you need a plastic one!
Why??? Try a plastic bolt & nut then try a steel bolt & nut, you won't notice any difference in performance.

But try it with the disc set to just click on a paper clip or small nail and see if the disc is affected in this area of discrimination..I have found a slight difference with the Compadre and the Silver. This would translate into iron minerals and the difference a plastic bolt would make.

i changed mine for giggles just to do it, but put the originals in my hunting sack in case i needed a quick fix.

Since nobody mentioned stainless Steel, I need to chime in. If it is not Stainless, you will have issues with it. Why don't you call me for the ABS ones and I will send you one for free!

Robert, is the factory screw and nut on the Sidewinder or any of the older models stainless?

Yes, the older models with the metal screws were all stainless.
