Tesoro coils... confused

Ok, well this morning i was reading on the Tesoro site about coils.

http://www.tesoro.com/coils.html

So im reading, and i see them talk about the 9x8 and 10x12. Here..

The 9 x 8 and the 12 x 10 are spoked coils that use Sinusoidal Technology. This technology creates a detection bubble that works from the center of the coil to beyond its edges. These coils produce an infinite number of electromagnetic flux lines, which surround the coil and penetrate deep into the ground. As targets pass through the bubble, they start interfering with or breaking the flux lines. The detector reads the interruption of flux lines and a signal is produced. When you saturate the ground with these flux lines, you

use terminology to try and dazzle their audience, in the end, however, confusing them.
When they say:

"spoked coils".. They are referring only to their physical design compared with a solid-body coil. Concentric and wide scan coils can be designed in round or elliptical, open or skeletal.

"that use Sinusoidal Technology"... This is simply a nifty electronic definition to describe the shape of the lines of force of ANY concentric coil's electromagnetic field. It is nothing special, but it an dazzle some. ;)

"This technology creates a detection bubble that works from the center of the coil to beyond its edges."... The "bubble" refers to the effective or responsive portion of the generated EMF.

"So according to that, the 9x8 works like a DD coil getting sensitivity from center to outside of edges??"... No, they are concentric designs, and the greatest limit of their sensitive area within that field would be in-line with the center axis of the search coil.

No, this holds true with a Double-D (wide scan) design as well, but the D-D coils can retain a little better front-to-rear depth or response than they do from the sides of the coil, but concentrics are relatively universal all the way around.

"Then why do they call the 9x8 concentric, and the 10x12 DD? If you view the HOT coil add, it says the 10x12 and 5.75" were both based on the "Sinusoidal" technology, but calls the 5.75" a concentric too?"... The 8x9 and 10x12 for the

here's a comment fron the peanut gallery.

I don't get into all the reasons why a coil does what it does, I just count loot.

As I understand it, the web coils come either for the uMax general line of machines and another different web coil covers the so-called "hot" line of machines.

At this point I've been pitting a couple old Tesoros up aganist the new "hot" Tesoros by checking them side-by-side in my coin garden and at actual hunt sites.

Oh boy!!!!!Nuff said

Getting to the point without opening a big can of worms...

Suggest: If you have an old machine (the original Silver Sabre or II, etc.,), exchange that old stock coil with a late model uMax concentric 12x10 inch coil (there are lots of used ones out there), take it to your favorite "hunted out" site (ya, the place you hunted out with the Tejon and Explorer II) and get ready to boogie!

Make sure you take along a long handled shovel and good sized sack for the coins.

You know I've been hearing a lot about the silver sabre II being deeper than the tejon, vaquero and all, but is it true and how can a person prove the point?

The relationship between a man and his brand/model of detector is a lot like the relationship between a man and his woman.

He may fight with his wife and criticize her continually but may the good Lord help the outside person who would dare even to imply something negative about her!

First off, I don't say the Sabre II or any other old model is deeper than the Tejon. What I do say is it's a mighty good machine and when I use it behind the Tejon I find lots the Tejon (and others) missed.

I got into all this partly due to a challenge from a friend in the U.K. who claimed the original Sabre is the best machine Tesoro ever made for hunting ancient sites in the U.K.

Is this true? I don't know. I don't really care. The thing is his claims got me to buy a couple of these old beasts and I have to say my Tejon, etc., are now backup machines. The Sabre II with 12x10 coil is my main machine until I find something better. I'm really not a brand loyal person. I use what works.

I've been thinking about doing just that with my Eldorado uMax. Wonder how that would work out?

Thanks for the honest answer. I saw a depth review on a web site a while back that caught my attention. The site is listed below. Of course there's no way of knowing the true accuracy of the test but their interesting to say the least.

Yes, that's one site that got me going in the first place. I don't own all the detectors he has listed but the ones I have (or have had) come very close to his listed depths.

I personally believe his depth chart.

I'd guess (haven't tested it yet) my Silver Sabre II with the 12x10 concentric coil is getting about 1 inch more than the Silver uMax with web coil he has listed.

But again, who really gives a flip about depth...it's finds that really count. Most stuff worth digging is in the 4-8 inch range anyway.

post all your inputs of your finds and opinion. I have the stock coil and both 5.75 coils, and would like to know more on the 10x12. Let us know...
