I was asked how the 8" brown umax concentric coil differs from the 9"x8" umax concentric coil? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The 8 inch brown doughnut coil is a little lighter than the 9 x 8 and I hear it's less likely to go out of tune. I can't tell any difference in depth, but I haven't done any extensive testing. I'm switching over to brown doughnut coils, because of the weight difference. I also like the fact that there is one single large hole in the middle the coil. It helps me to zero in on a target better.

Having used both pretty extensively, I'd say there's so little (if any) practical difference in depth and general sensitivity that it's not worth mentioning. However, on several of my machines the 8" brown donut seems to give a smidgeon more depth, but there again not enough to change coils for. The difference in weight that tabman mentions doesn't matter for me, but the single hole is sometimes a plus when swinging in weeds etc. and it does pinpoint nicely.

I've read the oval coils are less susceptible to noise (if I remember correctly).

Haven't encountered any problem with that with either.

I think it's because the oval/elliptical coils don't go as deep. I prefer round coils, I with the standard was round. Well, they fixed that for the Outlaw. Round coils give better information, they're better to pinpoint with as well.
