I found a good corner lot to detect today. It was built in the forties. I was detecting a grassy area along a curb line and spotted a young guy on the front porch taking a smoke looking my way. I hurry across the street to tell him what I was doing. We hit it off great, so I asked if I could detect his yard. He said he didn't mind. Happy Happy. He told me that the house been in his family for a very long time and that his grandmother bought it back in forties. That's a good thing, because there will be less trash on the lot than house that has been rented over the years. I started out digging a bunch of copper pennies, but finally got into the wheat pennies. The oldest being 1909 and the rest range from 1944 to 1951. All the good areas to detect on the lot were frozen, especially next to the driveway and walks. I mainly had to hunt the sunny high areas. I found an old pick-up truck about the time the mother came out to talk. I asked her if she might know if it beyond to someone she might know. She didn't know, but was excited about it so I gave it to her, right after I took a picture it. Anyway, I final got my coil over a 1942 quarter. My ninth silver coin and just 9 days into 2015. I also got a gold ring to boot. When the ground thaws out, I should be able to find several silver coins on this lot.
It never hurts to ask if you can detect someone's yard. Getting a no won't hurt you and getting a yes will make your day!
