Tesoro Cibola Discriminate info....... :D

The other day i messed around with my Cibola. I set it about normal (no supertuning) Sens at 6, threshold about noon area, which is just barely audible. I then proceeded to run rings, and coins by it to see where they went. The smaller gold rings went out right above the Iron area, and the larger Gold rings were discriminated out not much further than that. I turned the disc. to the 5 cent position, and it didnt pick up any gold, or even a nickel. So for those of yall who dont wanna miss gold, id set it RIGHT at the Iron mark, or maybe a hair below to get a lil more depth on them smaller rings. JMHO Hope this helps!! HH

If I understand you right , you are discing out all gold rings between iron and foil setting? If so ,sounds like your knob has spun on the stem.
loosen the set screw in the knob and turn it clockwise a little at a time till you lose a nickel just a hair above the nickel mark. That should help get your disc calibrated. HH

has anybody noticed there knob was off any? i really didn't give it a thought but am curious and have to check it now.

Although most new machines are usually set properly, I always check mine out when I first get them.

On my Cibola, the knob is about one label mark counterclockwise of actual target discrimination. If I want to reject nickels, I would set the knob indicator about one label mark before the nickel, But I'll usually set it to just break the audio on a nickel to help give me an indication of a nickel. Other targets below a nickel would be nulled.
On my Tejon, the primary discrimination knob is about the same as the Cibola, and the secondary discrimination knob is very near on the mark.
I could just reset the knobs on the shafts but instead I just made a mental note of this. It doesn't really affect the operation of the detector, just the relationship of the knob indicator to the label scale markings.
I'll usually hunt with very little discrimination, and for relic, no discrimination. Sometimes after I get a target, I'll sweep the target and thumb the discrimination knob to where the audio just starts to break, then see where the knob setting is for a somewhat target ID.
