Tesoro choice?

I am thinking i would like to upgrade from the Bounty Hunter Discovery 2200 to a Tesoro. I want one i can use mainly for detecting for coins and jewelry inland with maybe some looking for gold nuggets, as well as an occasional trip to the coast to beach detect here in Oregon. Would the Vaquero be a good choice for this type of use? Or should i just stick with the Bounty Hunter for this type detecting? Thanks for any advice.

I am not certain about nuggets as we don't have any that I am awhere of up here (upstate New York) but can certainly say that any Tesoro is a great coin/jewelry detector. I am quite fond of the older Tesoro models for coin/jewelry hunting. Not to put down the Bounty Hunter but in my opinion any Tesoro would be an upgrade. I've been detecting for along time and occasionally try a different brand but always come back to Tesoro, yes they are that good. Steve.

No I am sorry I don't know as I never do any beach hunting. I am sure others will jump in and give you some good advice. Some great folks here on this forum. Steve.

Rebel, I know one guy who used his Cibola at the beach, even in the shallow surf (salt water). Found coins, silver rings and one gold ring. The Cibola doesn't have adjustable ground balance capabilities, however I have one and have used it on the salt beaches (not in water) and inland and it is dynamite. If you want to use it for gold searching as well, the Vaquero would be more suitable as it does have manual ground balance. However it would depend on the amount of mineralisation where you are detecting as to what sort of depth you could expect. I dont have the Lobo Super Trac, but I have read that it is a great coin hunter (including salt beaches) as well as being good for hunting gold (its prime purpose). Tesoro does have other machines, and the ones I have are great, very versatile and easy to use. They also find lots of stuff. Good Luck, Sapper.

for what you mention I think the Vaquero would be a good choice. If you indicated that prospecting was a big consideration, maybe a Lobo Super Trac. Or, if water hunting were a big thing, then the Tiger shark or Sand Shark. But, for general all around, the Vquero should be just fine.

To be honest, it is more difficult once you add nugget hunting in with the other chores you have in mind because for best results you want to have a threshold-based All Metal mode, and it would be handy to have a true all metal accept (ED-180) Discriminate mode as well as either manual Ground balance or efficient auto-tracking GB circuitry.

Keep in mind, too, that you're presently using a "used" detector so don't hesitate to look for a task-specific used detector. I'm suggesting you get a good multi-purpose detector now, but if you're serious about nugget shooting then keep an eye open for a Tesoro Diablo

Thank you for the comparison of different models. Sounds like the Vaquero would be a good one for what i mostly do.

Have a chance to possibly get a Cibola for around $200. Would that be as good, better, or worse than the Vaquero and would $200 be a decent price for one 3 months old and like new?

$200.00 is a great price for a Cibola, they sell for $340.00 new. Steve.

Mute point now. I had to go out of town to our granddaughters for a bar-b-que and got outbid by $14 while i was gone so i didn't get it. But have another lined up and possibly a Conquistador or a Tesoro Cutlass II. Anybody know anything about those models?

The Conquistador was replaced by the Cibola...godd machine with pre-set ground balance. The Cutlass II, well, I dont have one, I haven't had one, but if I'd been wise enough to buy one when they were around, I'm prettty sure I'd still have it..they were a great little machine.
