Tesoro called a toy at club hunt!

a comment was made to a fellow tesoro owner" hey is that detector a toy" ( a vaquero ). At first this made me a little angry, owning 2 Tesoros myself. Now I realize that this is a good thing. ....let them think that all they want...I don't mind lol
Wait till they get out hunted with a toy!

I use what works for me basically and not worried what others or sheep's in the pack use,my barometer on how good my detector/s and my detecting skills is how my finds pouch is filled with nice finds and nothing else.

If you are happy using the Vaquero then that is all that matter, must admit i have never seen another hobby like detecting that has had so much elitism in it,my detector is better than yours etc.

My main priority in this fantastic hobby of ours is enjoying myself and i guess the main reason why i prefer to detect by myself, elitism and detecting politics and jealousy in detecting are not for me,but i am afraid it does happen 'big time'.

I never have any trouble with places to hunt or if I come upon another th'er. They look at my Compadre and smile and ignore me!

i use a vaquero and have been to a few club hunts this past summer. did get the looks also, especially down the noses from the minelab guys. with their huge coils, harnesses, and all the gear they have hanging off of them. look like they are prepared for hitting the beach on another invasion of France or something. id say more than half had at-pros. anyhow, they did not find anything more than what i found. but, i must say, the minelab guys are a bit snotty. the ctx's and e-trac's did not do any better though than the rest of us. lol

Let them think its a toy, just bring your finds into the club meetings.
A toy draws less attention while out hunting as well.
The kids might think its cute, and the single mothers might find you cute, too.

Oh they do, they do!! They love the 68 yr. old wrinkles! It portrays character.:crylol:

they have fallen to the Tesoro, Camo, and may never see the good detector that they are,

yep gotta love detecting with a toy people don't think its real just some loony with a stick and a round thing on the end

yet to pick up chicks with it yet but yah never know hey stranger things have happened :cheekkiss:

I wear a minelab hat when I take the grey dino from a spin and wrote with a big black sharpie a 3 letter word under the minelab logo rhymes with sux :poke:

I wouldn't worry to much about the rich side of town they just want to look good :lmfao: not sure they get their hands dirty so not to worry

fun story though !! thanks for sharing!

on my test garden my tesoro silver umax was as good as my deus so i dont dismiss tesoros ,no drawbacks

When I first bought my compadre I was hunting at a local school in the wood chips and spotted other detectorists on the field and when I was leaving I walked past them and said hello. He was nice enough but after seeing my compadre with one
knob he told me don't even bother to hunt the field he and his buddy had cleaned it out. We chatted for a few minutes and left. I returned to the woodchips at this school a couple of weeks later and thought I would see how I did on the fields, due to our $1 & $2 coins I found just over $20 my best day ever!
They were using high end whites machines, I don't know how they missed so many coins . New machines set up wrong ? Possibly hunting for jewelry? Don't know?
Eleteisim is alive and well in western Canada. .......and I don't mind:rolleyes:

About "toys", I bought a top of the line White's a few years ago from the big K. It was a buy one get one free sale so I picked a cheap metal detector. I think it sold for $65.00. I know it was less than the pin pointer they offered. I gave it to a 8 year old girl who liked to detect with her father. First day out, and inside of 20 minutes, she hits a target. As they were digging it out, the first thing dad thought was "pull tab." Then reality set in. It was an antique, white gold children's ring with a beautiful opal! The coolest thing is that it fit her. It was worth way more than her toy!

Many of the more successful hunters in the club hunts I attend swing Tesoros. (including me)

Physical size is not really a good indicator of function. My I phone is much smaller than my Vaquero or Eldorado and has way more function that any detector, be it Minelab, Whites or other. I see a certain amount of elitism displayed in all of the forums I frequent. I imagine it has always been like that forever and probably won’t change. I bet the cavemen sat around expounding the virtues of which type of wood made the best spear handle.

Haven't they heard the well-used phrase "Size doesn't matter"? I guess I must be just a kid at heart, because I have several "toys".

I like my toy Silver Sabre µMAX the only toy that I will use now ,I have played with all the big boy stuff LOL and when back to Tesoro toys ONLY!!!!

People argue over which detector is best all the time but what really gets me is they both have the same detector and argue over which coil is better.

I think OP that is a great story! I would let them keep on believing that you swing a toy detector and clean house when you can. Never gloat when you all come back to lay treasure on the table, just say, "Not much today folks, my toy's batteries died before I could finish!"

Every year at our seeded club hunts I used my Compadre over all my other detectors.
I was the only one at these hunts using one.
Did anyone laugh at me behind my back...I have no idea but nobody was laughing when I won hundreds of dollars worth of prizes.
Except me of course, because I was so happy.

Yeah. That lil' jewel is lightning fast and you can pinpoint in a sec. In some locations I like it better than an ID detector.

For a toy they sure find the goodies:rofl:
