Tesoro/Bandido/uMax/finds&fun

Ahhh seems good to swing a Tesoro again. Recently traded for a Tesoro uMax not the Bandido II uMax the regular uMax Bandido. Haven't had time to try it out except for a quick hunt the other day for a short time at a woodchip school playground. I know that I was just lucky but every target that I dug was a coin (clad) or a piece of jewelry not one nail, pull tab or shred of aluminum, etc. Oops almost forgot that I did get a couple pieces of foil. I have read that Monte never cared for this model of the Bandido's as he said they lacked a factory set threshold and had wimpy performance. To me the threshold is set right where I like it and even though I did not use the detector in the dirt it good very good depth in the wood chips, and I only have the 7" coil for it. I dug a couple small ear rings and a few other unvaluable pieces of jewelry, I enjoy finding jewelry of any kind. Great to have a Tesoro again, they put the fun in detecting. Thanks Tesoro!

Monte operates in tougher conditions but still uses the Tesoros. He even judges the performance of other detectors on his nail board test to the abilities of Tesoros. BTW, good to hear from you.

Hi Steve,

... the 7" concentric is capable of decent depth in my soil, is yours concentric or DD you didn't say in the post.

... I like the the Bandidos, they made 4 versions, congratulations on yours.

I agree and feel anyone should ALWAYS have at least ONE Tesoro.

I have been trimming up my personal detector arsenal since another very firm scolding by my doctor to maybe get lout of the hobby and take care of my bad back/leg/knee and foot. She's right, but I can only ease my way into stepping aside by trimming away any heavier, more awkward detectors from my personal arsenal and keep them lighter and handier to use. A Makro Racer with the dinky coil is 'OK' and works well to compete with a Tesoro in dense iron trash. I plan to get a Teknetics Omega 8500 and see how it does for general Coin Hunting where I want TID, and how it does in dense iron littered sites I frequent for Relic Hunting.

But I have finally managed to round up five very, very good to excellent condition Tesoro's that have been my favorites to compliment my 'original' Bandido, and now I am outfitted with SIX of my all-time favorite metal detectors and it sure is a pleasure to grab any one of them to get out and have fun!

Now I just have to trade or sell some extra coils I will never use to get the ones I want for two of the six models and I am good-to-go for as long as I can last. They might not be 'depth' monsters, but most of the good targets I find are not deep, they are simply hidden in amongst a lot of ferrous and non-ferrous discarded trash. I am still nabbing good targets to 6"/7", and two of my Tesoro's have rewarded me with a gold ring in four weeks.

Most of the temps were above 95°, and many of those were triple-digit days to 111° so I wasn't getting out much, but 13.8% of the meager 399 coins I plucked this month were US 5¢ coins, and that's a good average. Better than the 12% for 25¢ coins and close to the 15.3% for 10¢ coins. Still, those blasted 1¢ critters amounted to 58.6% or the tally, but it's been hot and I was glad to get out now and then and find anything. One sterling silver and two gold jewelry items help soften the low coin tally, ... BUT, those are the results using only my Tesoro's for the month!

Enjoy your microMAX Bandido. They were OK and they are a Tesoro and work like a Tesoro, it's just that I preferred to have the external Threshold control as found on my 'original' Bandido, Bandido II, and Bandido II µMAX. Three Bandido's, plus a Silver Sabre II, Silver Sabre µMAX and micro-Sized Eldorado take up enough space on the back seat and floor and there's no reason for me to add the 3rd version of the 4 Bandido series models, so just enjoy your version all you can.

I have the 7" Concentric on my 'original' Bandido right now, and plan to sell/trade my 7" Wide-Scan (DD) and 10X12 DD and two or three of the 8" Concentric coils I will never use and get another 6" Concentric (the 5.75) and I'll have all the coils I need except for a white-colored, 'original' 8" donut coil which I am on the search for in like-new condition.
