Tesoro Bandido (the original)

Hello,
I'd like to have some informations about this early Tesoro detector.
I saw one in mint condition and would like to take it but donno anything about it.
Some question:
1) I saw that it has a manual gb, it works only in all metal (as Cortes does) or it works in discrimination too?
2) How it works in very bad ground (with a 8,5" widescan coil)?
3) Which kind of discrimination it has (120 or 180...or)?
Many thank for Your reply.

It's the forerunner of the Vaquero, and just about as good. If the price is right, you should get it.

) I saw that it has a manual gb, it works only in all metal (as Cortes does) or it works in discrimination too? Both modes
2) How it works in very bad ground (with a 8.5" widescan coil)? Don't know.
3) Which kind of discrimination it has (120 or 180...or)? 180, I believe.

Hi akille68 !

For information and specifications on all of the earlier models, go to the Tesoro website: www.tesoro.com and click-on the Manuals
button on the left margin of the Home page, then scroll down until you see the list and click-on Bandido.

My answers to your questions are as follows:
#1....The Bandido has two modes, i.e. All Metal and Discriminate.
#2....I don't know, but maybe other members can answer this one.
#3....I'm guessing that ED120 and ED180 discrimination's are more current developements. Maybe other members can offer more.

You can also phone Tesoro : 1-928-771-2646

Good Luck !

Todd :)

Howdy guys
I have one in my collection, they weigh about 3 lbs.and uses 2 9 volt batteries. These models have a sweet audio response on coins and other goodies in the ground. They have a 10 turn Ground Ballance control, Threshold control, Disc and sensitivity control and a true threshold based all metal mode, it opperates at 10khz and has Expanded ED 120 discrimination. These machines are sweet, so run don't walk down and buy it BTW you should get one at $200 or less. It depends on how good of a horse trader you are.............good luck....................Hombre............... Ps the ground ballance is tied in with both the Disc and Ground ballnce mode

The 10-turn manual Ground balance is tied to BOTH the All metal and Discriminate modes.

Personally, I found them to work quite well, but I didn't like the wide-scan coils that much. With the original Bandido (which had a white, 8" open-center coil standard) it was fine for general hunting, but I got great performance with a 7" concentric, even in our very mineralized ground here in NW Oregon as well as some even more-mineralized ghost towns I hunted.

It was Tesoro's first model with the ED-120 discriminate circuitry.

Add this to your detector battery!!

Ok men, many thanx for reply!
Here is a shot:

Even if is really in good conditions, the only thing that is stopping me is rust on audio plug in...

It has a spider 12x10 spider coil on, not the stardard one, but I have many coil from my eurosabre.

Take r,

Ale

Howdy akille68

The Bandido looks good in the picture, I wonder about the rust on the audio plug though. Are you talking about the coil connector( female) that is on the coil cable, or the (male) socket on the detector that the coil cable plugs into? Did you get a manual with the detector? If not, you can download one from their websight. Good luck.........Hombre

Other shots.

I saw the rusty audio plug just after opening this 3d. For sure is a reassembled item (new stems and coil and old brain). Nothing wrong about it, but all that rust on plug on the control box make me think at a bad storage.

I don't know about the original Bandido - actually should be a fine machine - but I found a Bandido-II for a cheap price and it's a fine machine. The fella had bought it new back then, but never got around to using it. Came across it after some years later and decided to sell it. Guess he lost interest. I lucked out and was the first to respond to his ad. Yup, was new in the box, paperwork and all, I assembled it, brought batteries just in case, so powered it up and played with it a few minutes. Didn't take long and I was on my way home with a new in the box older model for a cheap price. It really is a fine machine. It's the II (Bandido-II) model but it looks the same as the original. Brown open doughnut coil and extra long coil chord to allow hip mount. For an older model, it really works just fine. No regrets on getting it.
